Hey!
Let's start a Setlist prediction thread. I hope I didn't miss one that already exists. Maybe we should have a special section for this? Well I think I remember predicting the closest Masterworks setlist for the masterworks tour, back when this was an email list called YESMUSIC@egroups.com.
Anyways...
I predict the Setlist as:
Firebird Suite (opener)
this one MUST be done, I feel we won't miss this one, they will probably do even more of it than usual.
Siberian Khatru
whether they actually do this or not, I could care less, unless they do it in that order like on Yessongs.
Long distance runaround
For some reason I KNOW we are getting this one with an orchestra, which in my opinion is a great choice. Picture what the song would sound like with the orchestra playing along to the music during the verses?!?!?!
Time and a Word
I am not sure if THIS song is the one we'll get, but I bet they do something off of T&AW, since it was recorded with an orchestra! I reviewed the songs on the album and can't think of any other I could actually see Yes giving us. Not that this song is bad or that there arn't better choices, I just think if we get ANYTHING off of T&AW, it will be the title track.
Close to the Edge
Yes pretty much hinted that this one will be on the setlist when they put up a classical theory review of it on their website.
Awaken
This could just be wishful thinking, but I still think they'll do this one.
Onward
They might do this one to get a little more 'newer' stuff on the setlist, but I for some reason, can't see them giving us aything after Howe or let's maybe say Tormato. WHich is fine by me.
Starship Trooper
If we get anything from TYA, I bet it's this one.
Encore:
Roundabout
If you think they'll skip this you either have never seen Yes before, or have some inside info that could excite us!
I think that is going to be close, although i kind of hope it's ot, because it is pretty easy to predict a Yes setlist due to them NOT changing it up too drastically for the last ten years.
What are your predictions?

If I could dictate the setlist used for the YesOrchestra tour, it would look like this:
Firebird Suite
No Opportunity Needed, No Experience Necessary
Heart of the Sunrise
Survival
Circus of Heaven
Parallels
Mind Drive
To Be Over
The Revealing Science of God
Silent Wings of Freedom
Roundabout
Astral Traveller
South Side of the Sky
It would be nice for the band to dig out some real nuggets instead of so much reliance on the warhorses.
I think all of the above would sound terrific with the right arrangements.

You folks are forgetting something. There is a new album coming out. Remember, the super-long single piece deal? I'm really liking these predictions (my wish is for "The Remembering") but I heard that this new piece will be played in its entirity (with the orchestra), AND we'll get "South Side Of The Sky" with the center section done by the orchestra. That will still leave room for some other stuff, but that's all I heard

I'm with you, rat, and I wonder if there's a release date on the album. Many times in the past albums were released well into the tour.
Still, my first thought was No Opportunity as an opener, and I like SK's choices: HOTS, Survival, To Be Over, and TRSOG. You gotta think Chris would demand a spotlight for a bass cantata with orchestral accompaniment - ?
Heard two interesting cuts for the first time tonight:
For everyone, from 4/7/70, and Go Through This, from the Drama tour. Just when you think you've heard it all....right now, Rick's blastin' the Hallelujah Chorus in my headphones, and I gotta get up in five hours
I'm really gettin too old for this (NOT!)

Symphonic Music of Yes...hmmmm...I certainly hope it's nothing like the album of the same name.
Well, here it goes now...rub it!
Dream setlist:
Opening: Theme from 2001: A Space Odyssey
The Prophet
Perpetual Change
South Side of the Sky
Heart of the Sunrise
And You And I
To Be Over
Parallels
Onward
Shoot High, Aim Low
Solo set(Go Chris!)
Our Song
Encore: Long Distance Runaround

I would like to hear some stuff from AWBH such as "Quartet" or "The Meeting"
In fact, I think a whole set of slower, peacful songs would be great such as "Holy Lamb" and "Take the Water to the Mountain":D

Of course....the new album...woops!
But still, by setlist wasn't anything like what i would HOPE it would be. I like the idea of yes just playing their new album in it's entirety and then South Side of the Sky. But I'd REALLY like to hear them play CTTE this time, for my Step dad is going again, and last time they didn't play Awaken, or any wild epics and Jon lost his voiceso I think he might have gotten an impression that Yes isn't what they used to be. I've seen them do Gates, CTTE, AWAKEN, and all that, but that I am willing to travel to hear a band. So I hope now that they are finally coming back to the twin cities, they will give the amazing, mind-blowing performance that my step-dad has missed, but I have traveled to witness.
But as far as songs I wish they'd play:
Gates of Delirium : That would be great to hear with an orchestra, and also funny to see the orchestra try to keep up. But mostly it would be interesting to hear what an Orchestra would do to that song.
To Be Over : I love to be over. It could be done real sweet with an orchestra.
Turn of the Century : This is a beautiful song that I don't beleive an orchestra would screw up at all.
Onward : This song would sound great.
South side of the sky : This is a given
The Prophet : Of course
Hold Out Your Hand/You by my side : We wont get it, but we can dream about it.
Machine Messiah : ANother we won't get but.....
But anyways....I guess i have to retract my original prediction due to it not having the new album included, there is no way they'd play ALL of the songs listed. But the above is not the prediction, but more of a wishlist, anyways, this is getting looooooooooooong...................

One is the news and tour information and the other is called: "Close to the Edge: The Boundaries of Style"
Click there and you will find it!

My guess is they won't do anything that they did on the last tour.
Meaning no 'Ritual or Gates'.
Exceptions: Of Course are thier regulars: 'Starship', 'Roundabout' and so on.
As for 'Close to The Edge', I'm not sure that is a hint so much. I think it was found somewhere, and Yesworld felt since Close To The Edge was deciphered, they wanted to post it.
Its actually an article about Prog Rock. And Yes being the pioneer of Prog.
Great Article, if you haven't read it yet, definately do so.
I also believe they will do the new album, which I can't wait to hear.
And I am definately hoping that with the orchestra they will attempt to do 'Southside of the Sky'.
Also I'd love to hear 'Awaken' this time as well.
whatever they play, all i can say is I can't wait.

It was rumored at a site that I frequent, that the orchestra may only play on the new material. It also said that a member of the orchestra will be doing all the keyboards. This was the same site that gave me the information about them contacting an orchestra in Poland, alluding to an European tour.

That still leaves me wondering.... What songs other than the Clap and Mood for a day, don't have a keyboardist on them? Because unless the orchestra guy will learn an album's music that hasn't even been released yet, so it's not like he/she can listen to the new material. But it was stated that there would be and orhestra person playing keys. So are they doing an acoustic set or what? Or are we going to hear a keyboardless CTTE?

The FULL orchestra may only play on the new stuff. I would imagine the keyboardist might have a full evening. As far as learning the stuff, he/she/it has a lot of time to practice.

Long Commute, Part II:
This morning I was listening to a little Nilsson on the way in, and I was reminded of Yes's early years, when they did all those covers? And I started thinking, what if...they did a concert of covers? No, No, not like a lounge act, you know, they really did awesome jobs on America, I See You, Every Little Thing...
Imagine Steve pickin' away on Everybody's Talkin, and Rick on the strings - know what I mean? You know Jon would eat up those lyrics, they're right up his alley (or should I say, moonbeam) :o
I'll think up some others over the weekend - have agreat one, everybody!

If I was to have the choice it would be like this
Part 1
1 Firebird suite
2 The gates of delirium
3 Integral version of the new album
Part 2
1 Close to the edge
2 Integral version of "Tales from topographic oceans"
Encore 1
South side of the sky
Encore 2
Wounderous stories/Roundabout
But who am I to decide about that?

(That's Clear Lake, CA, Konocti Harbor...front row, center!!!)
I'm pleased to see so many nods to "The Prophet". It's always been a favorite of mine. It tops my list of hopefuls. I, oddly enough, don't think they'll do "Close To The Edge". I think that, from a practical standpoint, it would be much easier to orchestrate the keyboards from "Awaken" and produce a fine work.
I was recently listening to "Finally" and realized that the whole ending sequence (with Steve's acoustic work still on top) would be brilliant with an orchestra. Rick, after all, was trying to sound like one by using sweeping string lines and such.
"Onward" would be nice with a real French horn as it appears on the album. While I love Yes's slower pieces I hope evry1is1's wish does NOT come true. There are too many rock-n-rollers in the Yesfamily (not me) that would be pissed off by a "wimpy" tour of only slow stuff. It would, however, make a lovely album.
I hope they do Steve's "Mood for a Day" with the string quartet as appeared on the "Symphonic Music of Yes" album. The one lesson I hope they learned from that album (fiasco) is DO NOT HIRE A CHOIR!!! The only songs on that album that work are the instrumentals. The choir (while O.K. in their own right) ruined every moment they were present.
While everyone is speculating about whether a pianist (or other keyboardist) would be present and would take over some of the important lead work, I don’t see anyone discussing the orchestra's percussion section. Timpani? Cymbals? Xylophones? Anvils? Cannons!? I loved how Alan and Bill worked together on the Union tour. (I would love to get a boot of their duet!) Alan has worked with other percussionists on several occasions. I hope he gets to do it again this time around.

Future times ? rejoice is an interesting one. I've never heard a live version of that before. It's a great song, but the album version, like the rest of tormato, is a bit tinny.

I don't mean to be harsh, but I couldn't give a toss what the set-list might be: they could sing the bloody NYC phonebook or Chris Squire's laundry list as long they get their arses back together and commit to a tour and some new material!
In fact, I'm going to cease posting in the Yes 'What If?' threads and they just annoy me.

once i see irrefutible facts that they are really getting back together (aside from a passing comment from Squire)....i won't waste my time or yours in attempts to be clairvoyant....i agree with Boogie though...any set list would be fine by me as long as they get back on stage one more time....i just hope that if they do tour again....they play Milwaukee aside from Chicago...i hate the drive to Chicago....
