Ok, I know there's probably a thread that exists deep in the cobwebbed recesses of the Yesfans archives somewhere relating to mix tapes or cds (most likely of a strictly Yes nature), but I'll be hanged if I'm going to go searching for it, SO...
...consider this a revival of that long lost thread (if indeed it does exist) or just the start of something brand new! :D In any case, I was rummaging through my old collection of mix tapes (as I always do in search of song titles, bands, etc.) and thought it would be cool to do a thread of Yesfans' favourite mix tapes (for the old timers ;) ) and cds (for the younguns, and I guess us old folks with burners too, huh?). List the title of the tape or cd (if applicable) and the list of songs and corresponding bands recorded on it. I'll start it off with the tape that sparked the idea for this thread:
Title: Funky Climax 'n' Funky Stuff
Side A: Funky Climax (All Climax Blues Band)
Reaching Out
Whatcha Feel
Couldn't Get It Right
Money In Your Pocket
Children Of The Nighttime
Loosen Up
Lovin' Wheel
Summer Rain
Running Out Of Time
Side B: Funky Stuff (Mix of bands)
You Need Love Love Love ~ Alvin Lee & Company
Hey Negrita ~ The Rolling Stones
Come Dancing ~ Jeff Beck
Hot Stuff ~ The Rolling Stones
Emotional Rescue ~ The Rolling Stones
My Sweetheart ~ Focus
Let's Get Back ~ Alvin Lee & Company
You Know What I Mean ~ Jeff Beck
I Need A Bathroom ~ Focus
Constipated Duck ~ Jeff Beck

i am currently working on a compilation cd, too.
my very favorite 'new' [to me, anyway] prog bands i have come to know and love.
it will have flower kings, spock's beard and marillion tunes on it.
i just have a hard time deciding which tunes to put on it. [and in what order??].:stick: :D
i am also hoping to get another compilation cd going, too, for the yesfans party in a few weeks..
i have three VERY nice works [cd's] from our very own sonoacoustico, earl grey and rational punk. [alll yesfans members here] i am waiting for a couple more in the mail-one is from a yes tribute band from 'across the pond'..and then lightspeed said he'd send something, too. what about YOU, electric freedom?? i know you have something, and i hear you're pretty darn good!
i think it will go very nicely with the recording we are trying to get of the open mic at the yesfans party, and i will try to get busy on it.. hopefully, the postal service is moving along quickly, so i can get these done before july 23rd!
any other yesfan member who would like a song or two showcased on this disc, let me know via e mail OR p.m., and i shall gladly include YOUR work on it, too! [i prefer YOU pick the songs, tho]
a nice little reminder of just howe special yesfans really are!! [talented, too!]

Hey I like that idea of a covers tape (cd) , Martin! I think I might have kicked that idea around myself at one point. Some interesting covers there, too. Hawkwind does Gimme Shelter?!? Hmmm, how about Pat Boone doing Livin' After Midnight? :lmao: I see you included Tracks Of My Tears by Big Country - good version of that song!
Kathi, you'll have to let us know how your prog compilation cd turns out - sounds like it'll be a good one!

Stuff I could contribute to such a CD...
I have some CD burns of my old band. Perhaps I'll send you a homemade CD maxi-single...
prospective tracks:
CLOSE TO THE EDGE (intro only) 1:09
This was extracted from an ad-libbed jam. Suddenly we were attempting this piece. Not incredible, but you can tell what we were trying to play!
LOCOMOTIVE BREATH - 4:39
One of our better covers. I'm rather pleased with the production I managed with primative equipment.
HEY BULLDOG/THE THIN ICE -5:14
Artificially segued, this medley of Beatles into Floyd gives me a chuckle. God, we were a scrappy band!
THE SAGE/FROM THE BEGINNING/THE SAGE - 7:41
This features my no longer living musical associate Mark, who really brought these ELP covers to life.
Send me your address Kathi

Yeah, Hawkwind did it on a charity single for the Homeless, several bands all did versions of the same song. Hawkwind's version featured guest vocals from Sam Fox. Do you know of her? She was a topless model who went on to have a short lived crappy pop career for a year or two. Next thing I know she's guesting with the Arch-Demons of alternative psychedelic space rock!! Bizarre career decision by both of them
That Big Country cover is an excellent version, not many people know of it's existence over here, it was just the 'bonus' track ona 12" single so I', impressed that you know of it, Phil.

Remixes of The Beatles/YES and Rob Adams... Review by Earl (ehem) Grey.
Thank you, thank you...
We've gathered here in the moment of light cast by The Chickens of the Microbial Sort...
These chickens play instruments! I'm not sure which...
...Could I hear the strain of a static-osmotic orbulong, droning tendril-like, way off in the distance? Or was that a celeste? Or a cyberflugekazooglehorn? Either one, it is QUITE the thing... I Say!
Nice version of 'From the Beginning' Rob!
'Flying' never flew so sweetly... (Who's playing the keyboards there?! Nice! Cool acoustic work!).
'Close To The Edge'... This could have gone on the 'Remixes' album. Not a prob... Right in the groove there! Nice!
'Locomotive Breath': Cool spanish guitar... Into a Neil-Young-ish groove... Into a straight TULL groove... Into a very IAN sounding vocal...
Into absolute wierdness on the next track. ZOOOOOOOOOnnnnng. !
OK Rob... Tripping. Tripping. ZOOOOOOOOOnnnnng! Erch.
WHO-Land ahead... Sparks from Tommy. Cool!
Naked Eye. My favorite WHO song of all time (Had it on a bootleg, back when my beard wasn't salt-n-peppa!). Fantastic!
'The Rain Song' One of my top 3 favorite ZEP songs... and lovely flatted sevenths! And a fine cover! And bravo Rob!
I really enjoyed Rob's MicroChickens!

Yeah, I know of Sam(antha) Fox, Martin. I think she was "known" more for her cleavage than anything else... :lmao:
Well, I was big fan of Big Country at one time, even though I never got to see them live :crybby:. And yes, I do have that 12" single (the one with Chance and The Crossing, correct?), bought as an import which I payed a lot of cash for at the time! Money well spent, though...
Based on Earl's glowing review of Rob Adams' greatest hits, I must have a copy! And of course we must reweed so that everyone at the site has a copy also...what do you say, Rob? ;)
Peace,
Phil

I dug that one out of an old tape case. I made that in the 80's. I still like those songs. http://pages.prodigy.net/indianahawkeye/newpage23/16.gif
And leave Rick Springfield alone! I love him. Besides.......he's lives next door to Trevor!!!!!!!!!
