Ah, but the ease of ordering it through AmazonUK will put it in your hands within a week.

>>What is your favorite song on Magnification?<<

At the moment it's Dreamtime. Two weeks ago it was Can You Imagine/We Agree.

There are so many good songs it's hard to decide but since you are twisting my arm, I'm going for, "Give love each day". That refrain sends me into a trance. It's lovely and wonderful and great and moving. And I just love it.

Dreamtime was my immediate favorite when I first got into the disc, and while it has been challenged at times by We Agree and Give Love, its still my favorite.

You know what - it makes a change that we get the album before you lot in the U.S.!!! But then you got the Masterworks tour last year, and we didn't get a sniff - shall we call it a 1-1 draw?!

Is it just me or does some of Steve's guitar solo stuff in In the presence of... sound like a lot of work he did on Turbulence?

Favourite songs can change every day, don't they?
On Magnification it's probably "In the presence of" at the moment.
I really liked that one live!

It's not that Yes CAN'T go wrong with the epic numbers ("Endless Dream" wasn't quite perfect), but they usually don't, including "In the Presence Of."

In the Presence of is wonderful, I agree. It gets better each time I hear it. I like the studio version best but I saw them perform it only after they performed it live a few times. It will be interesting to see what it sounds like when they come back in 2002. I can't wait!

I voted for "Spirit of Survival" but it was very hard to decide. The whole of the album is very very good. I rate "SoS", "In the Presence of", "Give Love Each Day" and "Magnification" almost the same level. I decided for "SoS" because of the great contrasts between the havier and slower parts of the song. I love the part "In this world ... there is a safer place ..." Roman

I agree with you about the lyrics of SOS, Roman. It seems amazing to me that this song was written before the terrorist attacks in NY.

"Magnification", "Give love each day", "Spirit of survival" and "Dreamtime" are my favourites, but if I have to choose only one, it will be "Give love each day". I just don't get why Yes play "Don't go" instead of these great songs. Wonder what they'll do in Amsterdam.

I voted for Give Love Each Day. For me this song works best with the orchestra, already i thinking that YES have missed the opportunity to perform this song live as they are using the intro for the sart of the live shows.
Although it was i close thing as i also like Can You Imagine, just from the vocal point.

I voted for "In The Prescence Of". After hearing it for the first time at the Mann in Philly,I liked it. A progressive rock station called, Aural Moon, was playing it alot this past summer (well before the U.S. release) on the net and I came to love this song. When they played it at Radio City Music Hall,I was blown away. More so then "Gates" or "Ritual".

As stated in another post, I finally got my hands on this, so I can stop ranting, complaining.....whining.

On second listen, fav is still In The Presence Of, but I really like Dreamtime. I like the playfulness of the strings and woodwinds at the end of the song when the symphony takes over.

If I had another chance to vote, I would now vote for ITPO. Interestingly this song didn't really appeal to me a few weaks after I bought the album. But now, I realised, it grew very much on me and I love it more and more. Everytime I listen to it, it almost makes me cry...

01-11-2002, 12:47 AM
You know Roman the same thing happened to me! I find it to be a very powerful song. It doesn't make any sense to me, but this song affects me the same way as And You And I. I don't know why exactly as they are so different--but there it is! And I LOVE And You And I!

I *love* Magnification (and yes, I voted for Dreamtime). I have just moved to a new house and Mag was the first track I played on the stereo when I first connected it.

It's a perfect album opener, and it worked great as a perfect "new life" opener too :)

I love the song MAGNIFICATION. It kick starts the album perfectly. I love the way it bounces along. On first listen, when you get to the part near the ending where the orchestra "freaks out", you realize that the orchestra is going to be better than the usual "rock group with an orchestra". After hearing the MAGNIFICATION cd for 3 1/2 months, I love every track, but not equally. TIME IS TIME is the only one that fails to intrigue me.
In this case I'm glad it's so short! I don't hate it though. I think it just pales in comparison with the rest of the tracks.

I agree with you ! At first I had not much noticed the song Magnification but now I find it beautiful. One of my favourite now from the album.

At present I favour Give love each day but also rank Magnification, Spirit of Survival, Dreamtime and ITPO highly.

What I can't understand is how they could include the absolutely awful 'Don't go' on the album.

I like Time is time and Soft as a Dove - but I don't think they fit in too well. They are on the wrong album.

Flo
04-05-2002, 08:09 AM
At present I like In the Presence of. As for Soft as a dove, I appreciate it more than at the beginning and think it's a nice introduction to Dreamtime. The two fit well in that order.

04-05-2002, 11:46 AM
I agree with you Flo. I love Soft as a Dove and I find it interesting that so many folks have a problem with it. I think perhaps what is going on is that as individually each Yes fan tends toward one member in particular. Like, the guitar players tend toward Steve and the Bass players--to Chris. I'd bet that the biggest fans of Soft as a Dove are Jon devotees--people who have (or want to have) all of his solo stuff. It's such a Jon song. I'd be curious to know. A poll of this would be interesting.

Magnification, Spirit of Survival, Give Love Each Day, In the Presence of... No absolute favourite. But there are beautiful lyric lines especially in Magnification and In the Presence of.

"If we were flowers we would worship the sun.."

In YesSymphonic Tour Jon explained how all divine origins from the Sun. Our beautiful Jon the flower. At least he sings like the flowers sing.

Flo

Yes, Yessiree, Soft as a Dove is definitely a Jon's song. And I like its light melody (played on flute it seems). When I listen to it I have landscapes of countryside appearing in my mind.

I love this new effort. And the big word being effort! This time the guys sat down and put an album together that YES fans will truly love! What a Joy it is to open up a new album put it on and hear good old rock and roll on Magnification. But I have played Spirit of Survival about a zillion times. My favorite!Steve gets really demented on this track!I liked Dreamtime a whole lot too!In the Presence of is a good try also.I thought it needed a little work though. This is a NEW YES Album for a new millenium.CONGRATULATION guys. Can't wait to see you on tour.JOE

My buddy just got an extremely loud CD player for his car, and he wanted me to bring a YES cd to test it out. I brought two - HOUSE OF YES and MAGNIFICATION. He put MAG in first. We drove off with the title track rocking the car. We talked for a while, then he said "Let's see just how loud this can go without distorting!". He cranked it up as SPIRIT OF SURVIVAL began. I hadn't heard it this loud before, and it's a killer track. Lots going on. Still love DREAMTIME and CAN YOU IMAGINE most, but SPIRIT OF SURVIVAL blew me away today.

ITPO shades it for me ahead of Give Love Each Day.

The section I particularly love in the former is:

Can you imagine
Any reason
To know you’re only fooling yourself
And then you’ll understand why
You’ll understand why

So if we choose to realize
All existence is a dream
This perfect resume to you
From me

Just had a tough time with magic
The death of ego
The moon
It was just coming through

Send me such a good time
In a letter form, tell me
The pleasure, no pressure
Pure imagination in a metaphoric dream

I voted here before, but it seems The Crash obliterated both my previous post and my vote, so here I go again:

My favourite song in Magnification is Can You Imagine - no doubt. There're zillions of reason for this to be so, but to mention only one: it's the only piece on the whole album which orchestral arrangements I'm 100% happy with.
In the Presence Of comes second very close, and Soft as a Dove is also up in my list, although it doesn't seem to be liked that much by many of us here...

I still dislike Don't go so that hasn't changed as yet.

I mentioned in another thread that the first tune I heard from Magnification was Give Love Each Day, on a direct flight from Chicago to Warsaw over the airline "radio" system. I believe it was shortly before the album came out in Europe, and it just fascinated me. Although I like most every tune on it, Give Love Each Day still holds the #1 spot for me.

In the Presence Of...I thought this was one of the standout songs when I saw the Yes Symphonic tour at Cardiffs St. David's hall...I also enjoyed the version on the current Full Circle tour...Rick's work in emulating an orchestra is impressive.

Am I one of the few who also enjoys Time after Time...always felt the track would have benefitted from Rick tinkling away on piano on the fade out.

I've a little bit strange relations with Magnification. From one side I love this album, all themes are great there. From the other side I think that Yes' experiment with orchestra wasn't very successful because as for me nothing can replace keyboard player in the band. My favourite songs there are Spirit Of Survivor, Give Love Each Day and In The Presence Of.. and the title song of course..

I really hate questions like what´s best and what´s worst. I don´t like making a choice.
The first song on that album I realy loved was We Agree. It took me all away. ther´s something in it. Also was give love each day.
Because I only listened to it on casset first there were only the first 7 songs on it. When I heard Dreamtime and in the Presence of on Cd then they also became my favourites, which doesn´t mean that i don´t like the others that much now.
Also Magnification is great.
In the end I´m not able to say THIS is it.
So I´ll leave you all with my five favourites

In The Prescence Of

Or 'Dreamtime'.

Quite the quandry here.

Half goes to the heart (ITPO) and half goes to this Geminid mind.

A tough question!

And NO answer!

Love them both.

This was a really difficult choice. I have to sides, one side of me really loves very musicly emotional songs and the other side really loves a good rocker, so sometimes I'm more in the mood for song like ITPO and Give Love Each Day and on other times I'm more into tunes like Spirit of Survival and Dreamtime. Also the title track of the albmu has grown more and more on me, especially since I saw it live, with Wakey on Keys.

After a long debat with myself (no, not schizofrenic....) I've chosen for Dreamtime, because it's a rocker with feel of an musicly emotinal song, only thing is that I always end the song after Yes stops playing, 'cause I don't care for the orchestral outro very much, but at this moment it is the best song on the album for me..........curious of what I'll be thinking is the best song next week.....lol....

This one's a no-brainer for me: Give Love Each Day. For some reason, that song struck a chord in me from the first listen. Very romantic, meaningful lyrics that elude to the whole soulmate concept that I believe in--I have no proof of it, but I still believe in it. I hope and pray they play this on the next tour.

We Agree, but it's a close call. Dreamtime, SOS, Give Love each Day are all pretty close.

I don't know why this album isn't discussed more - it's as good as the "classic" albums IMO.

Well,I love the whole album.First,it was In The Presence Of(still is!).Then,it was Give Love Each Day(still is!).At whiles,it's We Agree(and, guess what?...yep,lol...still is). However!Voted for Time Is Time, which closes the album just about as well as anything they have ever done in the studio, with the possible exceptions of To Be Over/Relayer & Awaken/Going for The One.Time Is Time functions in relation to In The Presence Of almost the way Steve's(oh so lovely, almost unimaginably,country-tinged) guitar coda functions in relation to Awaken. The sheer simplicity of the tune, the lullaby quality. The harmonies.Jon.The lyrical beauty, again,so simple. That final "Night has come at last,to shine on you(then,ahhh-)...again".Yeah.The string quartet to end.Oh,yeah.Beautiful,no?G'night everyone.

What a great album Magnification is.

Too bad a Symphonic Live 2 wasn't released with all the "other" great songs.

Kind of reminded me of the feeling that surrounded the first time I heard the Moody Blues' Days of Future Past. (How old is this guy??)

Give Love Each Day is the kind of love song that people over 40 understand.
