I was never a member of a band, but back in the day, when I lived in Vermont, I had some very talented friends who had a band. My friend Gamal, Art Blakey's son, would sing with the band all of the time. He is incredibly talented, like his father.

At the time, I was doing summer musicals. Gamal had seen me perform and he thought I had talent. Ha! Had him fooled! Anyhow, one night I was at the local bar where they were playing. Gamal asked me to come up and sing with them! Dang! Noone was more shocked than I. I said no, and so he came down onto the floor and coaxed me up on stage. I sang Take It To The Limit with them. It was fun!

Then, we tried Summertime. I thought I knew the words. I got the first two lines right, and then, well, I forgot the rest. So, my career ended in deep disgrace. Not really, I was among friends, thankfully.

Never been on a stage like that

Closest thing I've come was a solo instrumental percussion in........ a song from the Sound of Music! I kid you not.

there's a sad sort of clanging from the clock in the hall....

Actually, the name of the band was Dawn Treader - the name of the ship in the C.S. Lewis Chronicles of Narnia - but that name was abandoned when people thought we were a female solo artist.

So we changed the name.

I've been in a band for five years now and still am and having great fun with it. I'm the drummer/leadvocalist (hell of a combination.....) of a cover rockband called Blackstone. We play rockmusic from all era''s from the 60's - 90's. We play songs from Deep Purple, Rolling Stones, Lenny Kravitz, the Black Crowes, ZZ Top, Thin Lizzy etc and also some blues like from Stevie Ray Vaughan for example.

When I was 8-years old, I started playing the Accordeon (no laughing please!) and I played that up till I was eighteen and then got fed up with it. I was playing with a group of people then, that were all pretty much fed up with the instrument they were playing at that time, so we all decided to choose another instrument. I chose the drums. We played for about a year together and then the group fell apart. I bought my own drumkit (Have to say it wasn't much, sort of a "my first Sony") and just played it at home on my own for a few years. Then one evening the owner of a pub I was a regular customer wanted to organize a jam-session evening and asked me if I could set up my drumkit there. I said allright! A guitarist, a bass player and singer walked in, wanted to play, but no drummer, the bass player, who knew it was my drumkit, said:"Well, come on, you play!" Thing was I had never ever played with a band, never took any drumlessons, so didn't know what I was capable of. His answer was "Screw that, sit down and f*****g play!" We had a wonderful jam-session, two months later the drummer of the band they were all in left and so they asked me and I've been with the band eversince.
After two years, I started to through in some backing vocals and harmonies (I was in church choir between age 12-15 so i can carry an tune, so to speak). After 4 years I did the leadvocals on 3 tunes. Since april of this year our leadvocalist left, due to family circumstances and we decided to go on as a four piece band (two guitarists, a bassplayer, and a drummer/singer).
We practicing very hard at the moment, to put together a new playlist and we hope to be performing again from july on......

Well, that is my story, a bit long, I know, but hey I just love sharing things!

Almost too many to mention. And mostly pants.

The Youthless Heroes - the first early-teen fumblings. Wrote the infamous lines
"Walking down the road
Feeling rather cold
Met myself a chick
Took her to the flicks
Said you've got a nice face
Took her back to my place"

Mooncastle - a neo-prog wannabee that sounded more like a bouncy castle. Wrote mind-numbingly bad songs with pretentious titles like Moria Im Paci (Let me die in Peace)

Figurehead - the first school band. We were hip - well we had instruments and no one else did. Played covers of course with two epole sharing a WEm dominator and me with my Roland Cube 20. Later with better gear, we were spectacularly thrown into school detention for playing LSD by Planet Gong at a school organised gig.

Squid for Dinner - more of an idea than a functioing band

The Ostrich Petition - weirdo three-piece experimental rock outfit, which went down well in pubs/clubs. Played 90% original material.

Rorke's Drift - another primarily orginal band which nearly won a support slot to tour with the Manic Street preachers in 1996. But let's face it, nearly says it all....

Yep - the current venture which hangs in the balance due to drummer having to build his house, is a yes tribute band. After nearly 20 years I can actually say I put a Yes band together which wasn't bad. Although it looks like the fairy tale may have ended.

Anyone want to buy some gear?
