View Full Version : If Rabin did a tour of mainly Yes songs.....

Jackaranda

Lets say TR decided to put together a first rate touring band and hit the road to do a tour that consisted of about 80-90 per cent Yes songs during his era, plus some solo material. Would you go?

Sure I go, but I also go if he was just doing solo stuff. :D

It's been ten years, I'd go see him regardless of what he performed. Now, having said that, I'd hope he doesn't go that route. A few yes songs maybe. I'd prefer mostly his solo work and maybe even some Rabbitt thrown in. Here's hoping for a tour, someday.

This is a no-brainer. Of course I would go! Anything by Trevor would be wonderful!

I would go if he were playing Nashville. Might travel - would just depend on finances at the time! I'm sure it would be an enjoyable concert. And like Ycantibu, I'd go see him whether he was performing any Yes stuff or not.

Well I think it'd be great, and would be a nice compliment to the current line-up if TR never joins again. If he did songs, mind you, he'd have to have a great band, like Endless Dream and Changes and I'm Running and Hold On, etc....then other goodies, yeah, it'd be great.

Besides, if this ever happened, I seriously doubt the current line up would even consider songs from the Rabin era.

Personally I would walk over hot coals to see him live. Last time I saw him was with Yes in 1984 on the 90125 tour. The only other time I had a chance was on the 'Onion' tour.

And due to other commitments never had a chance to see it.

Yes stuff, solo stuff bring it on :)

I would go b/c it was Trevor, and I'd tell him to play more of his solo material!!!

Is this something the current line-up would consider anyway, though?

Changes, Our Song, I Am Waiting, Shoot High Aim Low, I would say Holy Lamb but that's more of a Jon song than a Rabin tune. That's it, actually. Make it five songs because he can probably do a decent guitar solo spot.

Now you see why I don't want to pay a lot, since I don't have any great interest in Rabin.

I'd go.

The Calling, Endless Dream, Changes,Rhythm of Love............roll 'em on

Earl Grey
07-10-2003, 04:56 AM
I would pay to hear Trev 'rev' his telecaster up and jam on Holy Lamb for two hours straight...

He could do it. He played the perfect riffs on the recording. I would pay $ to hear him come-up with more of the same...

Just Holy Lamb. That would be enough.

Nothing short of inspired.

Two hours straight, then we go out for coffee... ('Tea? What the HELL is THAT Shi...?! Guinness Stout here on out...).

This would be the only shot at seeing rabin material preformed live. The current line up won't do it the only cover band in the area won't do it (again why call your band cinema if you hate the 80's call it future times or awaken) I have only seen hearts cinema and owner prefomed live durring the ladder tour (still pissed that owner was only in amsterdam why didn't they do it over here) so beside getting a delorian to go 88 mph  this would be my only shot at seeing the rabin tunes live

I would love to see him. I missed his last Solo tour in AZ. I was busy that night helping my wife deliver a baby. Some things are more important.

tardistraveler
11-21-2003, 04:31 PM
LOL, Nut! Glad to see you posting more out here after getting to know you in chat!

Yeah, a few things are more important.

I missed seeing the Union tour because I was 8 months pregnant, they weren't playing Nashville, and I just didn't think it was a good idea to travel 230 miles to Atlanta by myself (I couldn't find anyone else who wanted to go with me) with labor not THAT far off!

And I missed the Symphonic tour - had tix for Atlanta and was prepared to go when my dad fell critically ill. So, I sold the tix at a fourth of the cost, and stayed with my dad. Glad I did - as he died a month later.

But you're right - not many things are more important than seeing a great concert!

I would add "And you and I"; TR did a great job on classics during the BG tour, especially for not being really familiar with a lot of it when everybody jumped in on 90215. His guitar playing on this one is just beautiful.

I only got to see Trevor with Yes, but I did recently get his Live in LA CD. Wow. I'd go see a show of his no matter what it was, but personally, I'd like to see a balanced show with some solo, maybe some Rabbitt and some Yes, all in appropriate proportion. I'd LOVE to see him do Shoot High Aim Low again. One of the best live things I ever saw Yes do. Also Endless Dream. Priceless. Man....give him a call. Let's get this booked already.

:-)

Peace,

Stever

Well he certainly has some support around here doesn't he? It seems to me that with Yes pretty much acting nowadays as if he never existed it just makes people more anxious to see him.

But Steve would never let him back in.

You'd think that grown men in their 50's could lose the ego already.

Spoilers don't read this if you don't want to know wjhat will be added to the current setlist what is already being played and what was played last tour.
Owner 3 time
Rhythem of love on the current tour
as well as owner and I think Hold on being added to the current setlist (my source tells me 3 songs will be added Owner is one of them and since Alan played the drum solo that he used to play at the begining of hold on my guees is that will be added as well) the 3rd song if i had to make a guess (another rabin track) I am waiting Mind you also they played owner on the symphonic tour but i see what you mean only recently has steve gotten into Rabin tunes (first hand reports say Steve is really getting into Rhythm and is smiling and dnacing during the tune.)
Wish he was like this when he first rejoined yes.

MJy bet it's for Rick He loves that song he calls it the roundabout of 1983. Hold on I'm sure of why else would alan play the drum solo exactly like he does on the begining of hold on live. It would make no sense. I figure that was just a tease. and I am waiting well I figure it will be done. that is a guess mind you but Hold on and Owner are pretty much deffiant I like it though more of a chance for rick to solo :keyboard:

I think it was in that recent NFTE interview with TR that he mentioned he was thinking about touring to support the Live from LA/90214 release!! It feels like that won't happen now, since those 2 CDs have been out for a while and no news about a tour. I guess the soundtrack work took priority...well, maybe when his new solo album comes out.

honestly Trevor on stage again would be awesome and having not only doing hist stuff from yes but classic stuff like Gates, stuff from Dreama, TYime and a word, and maybe a movement from tales (now that would either impress both yes west and yes troopers or well i don't even want to think about the other option) Honestly with rabin touring it would be awqesome if his touring band was
Bill Bruford Drums
Tony Kaye Keyboards
Billy Sherwood Keyboards, Guitar, Vocals
Tony Levin Bass
and obviously
Trevor Rabin Guitar vocals

that would be awesome.

This new album he is going to do might be a suprise to fans. In the NFTE interview he says a new album will have a more instrumental, orchestral-sound, even though he does mention he would sing and have his guitar playing on it. With all the movie scoring he has done for the past 10 years it sounds like a natural proggression. I think he will still have some of that trademark sound that people are expecting to hear ala Can't Look Away but it sounds like it will also be pretty different than any of his solo or Yes work. He also said he is playing the best guitar of his life right now, so a Trevor playing guitar even better than he played on Talk is something REALLY to look forward to.

I think you guys have the wrong idea, in utmost respect.

The question being posed is that "If Trevor Rabin were to tour..not with YES..but as a solo artist..and happened to play predominantly Yesmaterial..what would you like to hear."
Me, I wouldnt go..LOL..Im so kidding..just a joke..whoa back down Jane Cinderella and Judy
It would be interesting..but unlikely he would play anything other than what he recorded with the group..which is totally cool with me.. i'd go see 'em anyway if he did a cool club tour or something.

Hi Linda and welcome!

Trevor was a major babe! Especially on the 9012 LIVE video. :hearts:
He's still a cutie, but it's hard to believe he's 50! Where does the time go?
I'd like him to get off his butt in that studio of his, and get out on the road.
I neeeeeeed to see him play live again! :valintine

This photo is on the cover of Trevor's album when he was with Rabbitt (his band in South Africa) The album is called A Croak And A Grunt In The Night.

He's totally naked on the album cover, holding his guitar. It's one great photo. :D

He was too skinny. Apparently he does workout.

Trevor said, "I'm pretty boring. I write and workout. I have weights at home. I swim for a half hour each day, bicycle for an hour, so I do about 2 hours of workout a day. Years ago I went through this silly sort of thing that holding the weights was going to affect my hands. That was a stupid concern."

The trouble with Trevor is that when he gains any weight it shows in his sweet little face. :valintine

Absolutely! I would be on the first plane out to see him live (and I hate to fly). It could be his solo music, his YesWest music, all new stuff, or even him conducting an orchestra performing highlights of his motion picture music (with an emphasis on The Great Raid, Remember the Titans and Jack Frost).

Sure do..and it was a turn off for me...way too much Eddie Van Halen BS for me..it didn't work..too show boaty.

However, I'd love to see Trevor get out of his studio for a couple of months and tour...I'd pay for it!

Too much Eddie VanHalen where?
Trevor doesnt play anything like EVH.
In fact EVH could learn a thing or two from Trevor.
The whole Trevor Rabin style is based on Piano knowledge and the transposition of what is done on a piano to the guitar. EVH doesnt have that ability or that work ethic to beable to do this type of playing.
Just a little insight.

Yep. I loved it. Especially on the Union tour.

I know Steve criticized Trevor for that, saying he did "weird guitar sounds" on that, but I thought it was great. :git[1]:

To play Devil's Advocate, Eddie Van Halen is an accomplished pianist who, no doubt, used his piano knowledge somewhat in his two-hand hammer-ons. Don't be fooled by "Jump." Eddie knows his stuff. Believe it or not, Steve Hackett is the one credited for originating the technique, although there were probably countless guitarists that used it. Brian May can also be seen doing it in the Bohemian Rhapsody video, at least a year before Van Halen was known.

I do agree that their styles are very different, but their technique's do cross over often.

rmig68
03-10-2006, 09:07 AM
Also, if you hear the guitar work on Winter's "Frankenstein," I could swear the guitarist (Derringer?) uses the two-hand technique about 2/3 the way into the song when the music changes. I would almost swear by it. That was in what, 1972? Eddie got all the credit for it but, it had already been done.

I would go see this in a heartbeat! Of course, I would prefer that he do some of his solo and Rabbitt songs too, especially those from Can't Look Away. I think it would also be neat if Trev dug out the songs Cinema recorded but were never released until YesYears--especially "Make it Easy." I want to see that song used as more than the intro to "Owner"!

Lets say TR decided to put together a first rate touring band and hit the road to do a tour that consisted of about 80-90 per cent Yes songs during his era, plus some solo material. Would you go?

Sure would, it's no different to Jon solo or Rick 'n'Jon. Rabin's contributions to those 80's albums was massive and his vocals are almost as distinctive as Jon's.

I'd go see him whatever he chose to perform. His Yes era is not my favorite, but it was a great one nonetheless. He's a talented musician who keeps doing soundtracks to crappy movies. He needs to get back on stage. If he does, and he comes within a reasonable distance of my home, I'll be there. I miss seeing him play.

:ele:

Amen, brother, on the Guinness Stout!

Songs I'd love to hear from Trevor are Changes, City Of Love, Shoot High, The Calling, I Am Waiting, Miracle Of Life...

I like and support whatever Rabin does. But I would prefer him to MOVE FORWARD.
I would rather see a world premiere of Rabin Symphony #1. I would travel to the Hollywood Bowl to see that one!
After all these year's of his heavy-duty music, anything less than performance by a full orchestra cannot do his music justice.
