I've wanted to do this for a while. Picking one favorite song on an album makes for an interesting poll, but I'd be more interested in seeing how people rate all the songs on a given album from favorite to least favorite.

I'm starting with 90125 because it happens to be the one I've listened to most recently.

Here's how I'd rank them after my fourth hearing:

1. Hearts
2. OOALH
3. Leave It
4. Changes
5. Cinema
6. It Can Happen
7. Hold On
8. City of Love
9. Our Song

Anyone else want to share an opinion?

This is my kind of thread.

I could be totally wrong, but I think this is my personal ranking for 90125:

1. Hold On
2. Leave It
3. Owner of a Lonely Heart
4. It Can Happen
5. Cinema
6. Our Song
7. Hearts
8. City of Love
9. Changes

I'm surprised at how that list looks. Hold On gets the top spot ever since 9012live showed me how good that song is. Our Song has a great end (music . . . good to you! . . . . good good part!!).

Hearts and Changes seem overrated to me. Is it just because they're 7 minutes? Why does everyone love those so much? Changes just doesn't do it for me. Not my type of Yes song.

Hearts on the other hand just doens't sound like much of anything to me. It's not bad or anything . . . Maybe I need to see it live to appreciate that one.

I'm not as sure about my list from "Changes" on down. My #4 - #7 are pretty interchangeable, actually. Only "City of Love" and "Our Love" (#8 & #9) just don't do it for me at all.

"Hearts"? I don't know for sure. On the one hand, I don't want Yes to be a conventional "song" band - (A-B, A-B, bridge, B), but on the other hand, I really can't get excited about totally non-melodic, experimental pieces ("The Ancient"?), or empty-sounding drums and chords ("Parallels"), either.

I guess what I like about "Hearts" is what I like about "Endless Dream" (only, moreso with the latter) - it starts out like it's going to be a little experimental and then it changes into something with actual melody and harmony.

Whether a person actually likes the melody or not, or perhaps finds it derivative (as many seem to find "If Only You Knew"), seems to be another issue. I happen to enjoy both of them, though the form of "If Only You Knew" may be a bit too conventional even for me.

Hi,
I'm afraid, and expect to get stoned for heresy at some point in the near future, but I find all of the music on both 9012$ and $ig Generator pretty rank.
But hey, what do I know, I had to wait until 1973 to see Yes in concert.
They may have been Yes albums, of a sort, but they didn't contain Yesmusic.

OK...for me:

1. Cinema/Leave It
2. Hearts
3. Hold On
4. It Can Happen
5. Changes
6. Owner
7. City Of Love
8. Our Song

(I know that Cinema & Leave It are really separate tracks, but they really should be connected much like FT/Rejoice on Tormato in my mind)

I can get into all the songs on the album on at least some level, but I have to say I like the 9012Live version of Changes more than the album version and my favorite ways to hear Owner are Union tour versions and the Princes Trust show version with Rabin and Howe trading off some excellent solos.

Pop goes the weasel, I guess. As a fan of classic Yes I was disgusted by 90125 when it first came out........but now I like most of it except for the last 3 songs on my list.

^^If anybody's going to get stoned for heresy it's going to be me. I absolutely love 90125 and I know 95% of people here favor the classic Yes. Anyway, here's the verdict:

1.) Cinema (unbelievable)
2.) City of Love
3.) Leave It
4.) Hearts
5.) Our Song
6.) Changes
7.) Owner of a Lonely Heart
8.) It Can Happen
9.) Hold On

Honestly, to me, their is no bad song on this album. Sure, it isn't classic Yes, but they weren't trying to be classic Yes. They had a new guitarist and a new keyboardist and did some really great stuff in this era. Just my opinion.
=)

Cinema (one of the best Yes instrumental sections ever)
Leave It (stunningly inventive)
Our Song (brutally underrated - the verses and solos are awesome sunshiny Yes, marred only by somewhat saccharine chorus)
Owner of a Lonely Heart (awesome single)
It Can Happen (more feel good Yes, great sitar)
Hold On (gets better toward end)
Hearts (overrated - production is too sparse)
City of Love (has grown on me)
Changes (the only weak track - aside from great instrumental opening, this song is weak AOR - could be Journey)

Hearts (really good intro when played live on the 94 tour)
Our Song (I thought it was the most 70's sounding song on the album)
Cinema (supposedly the intro to the 'lost' 20 minute "Time")
Hold On
Owner
Changes
Leave It
It Can Happen
City of Love

Of course I love 90125, but where the hck did that lame "Our Song" come from. To me that one was just filler on that album. I wore out 4 LPs of 90125 back in the days of vinyl. But, I must say I always skipped "Our Song"

'Our Song' and 'Hearts' is Jon at his best.
OOALH is seven only because I've heard it so many millions of times (radio, etc.), in fact, the first song I ever heard from this album.

I can't believe the lack of love for "Our Song."

My favorite track on the album, 3.5 minutes sunny Yes harmony bliss with some great musicianship too.

Wow, well my hat's off to diversity in tastes.

I rank Changes last, except for the extremely awesome intro.
