This should be stellar ! I saw Bill with Patrick Moraz so many moons ago, and his ability to dissect rhythms within a jazz-based format is absolutely amazing.

I'm still trying to talk Patrick into going Sunday.
It’s going to be a busy weekend.
We should stay home do house work, take care of kids....
but going out would be more fun

Not only was the club small and intimate, we sat some 20 feet off (small) stage left, right in front of Bill Bruford. This incarnation of 'Earthworks' featured a smaller ensemble (drums, stand-up bass, woodwinds galore and grand piano) than prior tours and the musicianship was extremely tight with the music being full-on jazz. We even had the privledge of singing 'Happy Birthday' to birthday-boy Bill, who came from the kit to the front microphone to introduce his band-mates and make his usual witty comments. He told all us 'old fogies' that he'd sign our YES and King Crimson albums with a laugh and did in fact sign CD's and DVD's being sold from this, his "Footloose and Fancy Free" tour.
It was incredible !!

Antioch's review was 'right on'. Although scaled-down, this 4 piece collaboration of drum, sax, bass and piano packed a solid punch that was both melodic and powerful. These guys are all GREAT musicians. Afterwards Bill gave autographs and graciously excepted the well deserved praises. Even with his scaled down kit, he was still very impressive playing those fun 5/4 & 11/4 time signatures.
I've always been impressed with every stage of Brufords career. He has always taken his work to higher levels with each musical incarnation. Even within Jazz, he creates music bolder & more interesting than many of his contempararies. Intricate yet imaginative, he is one of the most interesting jazz and fusion artist around.

The positive but short review in the 'LA Times' today titled "Bruford, Earthworks proves to be rock-solid" praised the members of the band and gave a brief biography of Bruford, acknowledging his work with King Crimson but neglecting Bill's earlier success with YES. Wad up?

Great seeing you Silent_Wings.
