I just saw several copies of MAGNIFICATION at FYE reduced to 4.99 with a hole punched in the jewel cases. This album is awesome and it saddens me to see it treated as a clearance item.

FYE (For Your Entertainment) is a chain of CD stores, owned by Trans World Music - who also own COCONUTS and RECORD TOWN. I don't think RECORD TOWN exists anymore. I also think they owned STRAWBERRIES for a while.

It's so sad to see MAGNIFICATION going for 4.99 and THE LADDER going for 6.99. A good deal for someone who hasn't got them yet, but not very profitable for YES.

These are the one CD versions of MAG, no bonus disc.

Fye also bought out a rather large chain that used to be known as Camelot Music.

I'm hoping the next YES cd will sell more than MAG and LADDER. Or maybe they shouldn't make so many copies at first?

So, hopefully all of the copies of MAG wont go to 'cut-out' status...

I paid $38.00 for the Yesyears DVD at 'Tower'. Happily.
Loving it, bye the way. Even though it doesn't offer 'Surround Sound' or any 'extras'.

It's just nice to have on DVD.

The idea of 'Magnification' as a toss-away special goes against every nerve in this Yesfan's body... But I don't think it's gone to 'cut-out' except for in a few odd stores...

'The Ladder' on the other hand... :( 'Cut-Out' virtually everywhere. Alas.

Well, I don't like Magnification, so...well, look on the bright side. Someone may see that Yes CD in the bargain bin & buy it cause it's cheap. Who knows, they may even like it. And another fan is born and/or re-discovers Yes.

I believe the whole Magnification deal was a disaster. I thought the orchestra was a good idea, until the album and tour happened. This may go down as Yes' Waterloo. Aside from my opinion, many, many people, die-hard Yes fans too, stayed away from this "experiment." I still think that the title track was great and half of "In the Presence of." Never liked the "When I touch you there" part of ITPO. This time I'm not joking. When Jon's lyrics get that ambiguous, not only is it uncomfortable, you have to ask, "who o.k.'d all that crap?" Orchestra was not mixed properly live, according to many posts and my own experience and Yes themselves were constrained during that tour. I say, if Yes can get $4.99 then God Bless Them.

As a Yes fan, sometimes you have to be honest. Apparently, the rest of the world is being extremely honest. I remember a few weeks after release, seeing 11,000 copies sold and thought it was a type-o.

I don't agree with you at all MIG. I love Magnification and I think poor promotion was the real reason for the lack of commercial succes. The 11.000 sold copies was the number of sold copies only in the UK in the first year after release. Today it's more than 13.500 copies in UK according to Henry Potts' website (excluding sale by internet). It's not much, but not so dramatic as you suggest.
Many people at this site seems to love this album, and there are only die-hard Yesfans here, so .......

From what I've read in this forum, I tend to think that most of the members who bought MAGNIFICATION are quite satisfied with it. Seems it may be time for a poll.

opinions are not mandatory, but i LOVE mag, and i am a die hard from way back.. [me & the brontosaurus guys]
it took a while to grow on me, but i really like the clean-ness of it.. and i am no stranger to symphony music, so, it seemed like the natural order of events for me..
my only regret is that rick wasnt there with them AND the symphony.. i liked tom just fine [and my KID loved him] and i really really wanted a copy of the score, but mean old larry groupe would get off one for me..:crybby:

if/when i introduce yes to the conductor of the local symphony here, that will be the album i give him..
[he just got axed from his job at the college-he has time, now. to listen]
