While I love the music on this album...(or CD) I hadn't played it in a long time. I was in need of an Awaken the other day and decided to go the source.

I grabbed my GFTO CD and hit the car for a ride that would be long enough for the whole album.
My CD is not a remastered copy, and maybe I have been to used to newer perhaps more relaxed (to use a friendlier word) versions, but Awaken and the whole album sounded sped up to me. Like the mix was tweaked just a bit to speed up the tempos and Jon's voice seemed to be the biggest factor.

Maybe I am just going nuts? I have had tapes that fluxuate in speed but never a disc, is that even possible?
I would love to do a side by side with a remastered copy of GFTO
maybe I will have to wait for the rhino version.

GFTO and Tormato are both CDs that I love the material on, but
would love to hear better sonic quality of both.
They seem to tinny and GFTO especially seems to have this sort of over reverb/phase sort of thing going on in the mix...

Any thoughts?

I checked my CD...it sounds normal to me. My finely tuned guitar seems to be in the proper key when I pick along to it.

Bit bemused myself on that one PaulH - listened to that album just about a hour ago and couldn't spot anything like what your describing. Mind you I have the Atlantic remaster and not the standard plain vanilla CD. My bro down in Kents got both though so I will txt him and ask him to try spotting it and get back.

Probabaly was most likely your CD, I have the same probablem listen to Frank Zappa's "One Size Fits All", On my tape it sounds lovely but listening on CD, sounds as if the band was caught in a slo-mo machine............I only listen to the tape, unless I am making a mix tape, then I bring out the CD.....

What a album, Not a single bad song on the album.....

The last GREAT Yes album

Thanks for the input all......
maybe a just got a defective pressed copy....I
got out my guitar after I read Rob's post and I believe
that Awaken is manily in the key of E...
After tuning carefully to my pretty reliable tuner...this one was almost up to F#....so my suspicions of being sped up were true..
(and I sigh of relief that I wasn't losing my mind)

Well, I look forward to the Rhino release...especially with some
expanded goodies.

It makes you wonder if there are pirated CD's out there. I don't know; sure sounds strange though, maybe it's just a defective one.
GFTO is my fav. Yes album. I cannot WAIT for the Rhino remaster!
