Brothers and sisters of Yesfans...at last it is upon us! The official release of Jon Anderson's 'Animation'...this is stated in a newsletter I received in my e-mail box just now...

"The German label Deimos is going to release one of the most sought-after prog albums on CD: "Animation" by Jon Anderson. Many wonder why this record from 1982 never saw the light on CD. There were even fans who took actions with the record company to release it but without result. Together with "Song
Of Seven" from that same period, "Animation" forms a bridge between the music Anderson created with Yes and that of Jon & Vangelis. Hopefully, the CD will also contain bonus tracks. The CD will be available through Groove."

I will post more info as I get it, be sure of that...NEWS OF THE DAY OR WHAT? I'm putting on the LP right now!

This IS good news, as long as it's legit and sanctioned by Jon!

Well, I hope it sounds OK. I have a German import of 'Olias Of Sunhillow' that sounds like carp.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

This was released many years ago on a Russian label, but all it was was a cd made from an lp.

There's something fishy about that. What do the carp sound like? :silly:
Sorry, I couldn't resist!

Seriously, that is great news about Animation!! I've got the LP, but it is tremendously worn out - would be great to have it on CD, as long as it's the real deal.

Mine is a Japanese import - it sounds great!

I just hope that the brilliant song 'Twins' (a.k.a. 'Two Old Ladies') will be included. One of the most moving Jon Anderson songs ever...really! "Spiders' and 'Carnival' are two other songs I hope that will appear on it.

And maybe this label can re-master 'Olias Of Sunhillow' as well? Altough my Japanese import version sounds OK, I think that this album can be improved to impress us even more...

I have the German CD of OLIAS, as well as the German FISH OUT OF WATER. They both sound quite wonderful to me. I didn't notice anything that sounded distorted or low quality on either of them.

My German Olias is just muddy midrange, with the treble and bass barely existent. However, I have a Japanese FOOW that sounds wonderful.

I have heard a lot about this album, but have never actually heard the music it contains. It sounds worthy of pursuit!

Fido,
It was released in 1982 and contains the following tracks:
Olympia
Animation
Surrender
All in a Matter of Time
Unlearning
Boundaries
Pressure Point
Much Better Reason
All God's Children

Whilst it is generally a good album, because it wasn't released on CD and hasn't been available for a long time it has been raised to a status beyond its worth in my opinion. Some of the tracks are pretty weak Anderson stuff, and it certainly isn't 'prog rock' It's a pop album.

Jon was assisted on the album by Dave Sancious, Clem Clempson, Simon Phillips, Stefano Cerri, Chris Rainbow, Jack Bruce, Ronnie Leahy, John Giblin, Morris Pert and others. Many of these were amongst the top UK session musicians at the time. In particular, John Giblin (bass) Simon Phillips (drums) and Morris Pert (percussion) played on many mnay albums of the era. Jack Bruce of course was with Cream, whilst Clem Clempson I believe played with Nazareth and was on Jon's 1980 solo tour. Ronnie Leahy and Chris Rainbow did keyboards, and Ronnie Leahy appears on the Steve Howe Album.

The stand out tracks for me are Olympia, Animation, Unlearning and Pressure Point. The track Somehow...Someday from Open Your Eyes contains much of the same melody as Boundaries from this album.

All in all, Animation is a good album and worth getting. It's not prog rock, sounds nothing much like Yes and didn't sell!!

I regret that it still hasn't been released. In the meantime I heard that the guy who runs that label is all about false promises. So maybe this is one of them? I don't know, I'm just a fan who wants to play the Animation album in full quality sound.

How long must we wait?

I found a copy on Cd on EBay advertised with additional tracks so I bought it. When I got it I found it was a CD copy of the original LP complete with scratchy noises, just like my own copy! The extra track was Spider, the B side of Surrender, which was also in my collection.

Needless to say it went straight back!

So, if you DO see Animation on CD advertised, be wary of cheap imitations.

Maybe Rhino will do Animation and Three Ships?
They are remastering almost all the YES albums why not the solos?

"Animation" is one of my favorite albums ! It contains some wonderful music and strong musicianship, especially David Sancious and Simon Philips. I too have 'Spiders' on a cassette from oh' so long ago and am hoping 'Twins' get's added to this fine project.

Aside from "Olias", "Animation" is the best solo effort from Jon. The whole thing is beautiful, especially the title track.

Saw a message at this day in the Newsletter of the Groove company:
"the release is scheduled for the end of this year and there will be several bonus tracks".

Some news to be taken with precaution ;-)

An understatement still, I don't believe a word of it anymore untill I have the album in my hand.

But maybe, Jon said in a recent interview (Jambase) that he's starting to sort things out...let us hope this means Animation will be released. If Jon really had anything to do with the delay that is...we'll see...
