Rick Wakeman is featured in Roger Dean's DVD. Rick hosts the project with quips and narratives about the band and Dean's work.

I love this guy! He is funny, clever, witty, and so very creative.

Anyone else have some thoughts on Rick?

he should be a stand-up comedien!!
i think he is so funny, and alec & dee confirmed it..[they saw his show recently]

when i was waiting to meet the band in 91 [union tour], i wanted to treat them respectfully.. i called out "mr wakeman, mr wakeman!" he looked right at me and laughed. he said it was funny cause the only people who call him 'mister wakeman' are usually COPS!! [but i got his attention as well as his autograph that night];)
did you all know he suffered a heart attack when he was 25, right after completing 'journey to the centre'?? he also, a few years later got a combination of pleurisy, double pneumonia as well as legionnaire's disease?? he almost died!! all this information was reported by mark andrews in progression magazine-winter/spring issue-1999. [husband ordered back issues for me]
and if you dont have a subscription, GET ONE NOW!! wonderful magazine!!

I wasn't fortunate enough to see Rick's shows in DC, but my friend Doug did, and told me some of Rick's funny stories! I would love to get a copy of the XM show!

I did see Rick in an acoustic show near Nashville - he told a story about meeting Jon Anderson in a hotel. Jon had his easel set up in his hotel room in front of a window overlooking the sea and was painting. Curious as to what Jon was painting, Rick looked, and saw - a flower! Not the seascape he was expecting.

Another funny story about getting stopped by the police - too many beers, I believe. Needing to use the restroom, the police took him to a nearby house, where the lady agreed to let him use the restoom. But while he was in there, she opened the door a crack, handed in an album, and asked him to sign it!

His stories are almost as good as his music - which is superlative!

I've never seen any of the shows, but he has appeared on Briish television as a stand up comic on many occassions.

I have the XM radio show, but am having problems getting it copied. I promise once I do, I will offer it on the site.

Thanks, Nightliner - I would love to have a copy of the XM show. And I do have a CD burner, so would be glad to weed it out to others.

My Rick Wakeman story has been told a few times here on 'Yesfans' but I'll repeat it nevertheless because it shows how truely respectful Mr. Wakeman is of us fans.
I have been collecting YES articles since 1969 and have some 20 photo albums of history recorded. One of the books is all on Rick (during the 6 wives 'solo' period and into the 'journey' project) and I was fotunate enough to sit down and chat with him when 'Hollander' (the band I was managing) opened for him.
He looked through my book and kept saying "this is amazing" over and over. Afterwards he signed it 'what an unbelievable book' - Rick Wakeman and we chatted for some 30 minutes.
He's witty, charming, down to earth and a gentleman.
I'll never forget that wonderful day !

OK - I now have the XM show in my possession - in fact I'm listening to it right now! It's wonderful!

So, I already have a couple of PM's about this. I'll take at least 2 more - hopefully people with CD burners who are willing to share this along with others. I'll post this in the weed thread as well.

I don't have any Rick stories, but my eight year old daughter has singled him out as her favorite member of the band and she's an excellent judge of character.

After seeing him and the English Rock Ensemble in concert at Buxton, UK. I agree, he should become a stand up comedian..the concert was awful. After seeing this I now realise that he is carried by the likes of Anderson, Squire, White and Howe.

Jay, just bite your tongue. Was that yesterday's show, Saturday, April 19, the THIRD show of this tour? And when did Ashley sign on? four days ago. I would wait and see other comments from these shows before I pass judgment on you, Jay. (Please, please, just let him be confused.)

I enjoyed the XM and the Annapolis shows so much.
He is a great storyteller, and his playing was awesome.

He was very generous in his talking with us and signing things and tons of pictures

heres one after the Annapolis show, our group was posing in front of the Bar, when Rick walked out of the building. The guy taking the picture (pete) said "hey Rick, wanna get in the group shot?" and he did.

Rick is my favorite Yes member. And it was through him that I was introduced to Yes. He's the best with or with out Yes. I have never been able to see him live solo. I do wish he would come to AZ sometime

while we were down, a few of us were talking about Wakey's tour here in the states. Oct. 17th he will be in Florida at the Tampa bay Performing Arts Center.

Anyone going to see him on his tour here in the states?

For a good laugh, check out his biography at RWCC. It's like reading Monty Python. It's hard to believe he's in such a serious band.

Rick is the greatest guy...having met him on several occasions during the last tour I can honestly say that. Smart, witty and friendly...the attached picture shows Rick telling a joke at the Yesocus Fanmeeting on june 23rd. Also see the YesFocus website at www.yesfocus.org (with guestbook now!)

Gee, it feels good being back on Yesfans, I really missed it!
Let's hope we may never encounter these technical problems again...

Their Yes Acoustic shows the whole band is serious about their wacky: Steve is hilarious with physical comedy. Rick is a super-intellect who designs musical spaceships and does lots of programming of patches and dislikes factory presets like I also do.

All of Yes is ultra-smart and funny, but Rick is the hammiest and cheeziest and he does it all the time non-stop, white bread OR whole wheat,
especially at the piano.

I saw Rick in a few interviews and the guy is not only amusing, but you can tell he is confident in everything he does. I will always follow what Rick is up tp no matter where he ends up.
