What does everyone think about the new Rabin interview over at NFTE? Not a hint of self-promotion in that guy's body! I personally enjoyed this interview, found it to be quite entertaining and especially most informative regarding Tony Kaye's involvement over the years.
The thing that struck me, though, about Rabin's attitude towards Kaye was that he seemed to overly praise him, only to back-off and state that it "sounded" like he was being overly nice to the man, but that it wasn't the case. I just don't understand why, if he really believed the things he was saying @ Kaye to be true, he would be so apologetic about heaping praise on Kaye. To me, it seemed to be payback or his own revisionist take on things. Any thoughts?
I have always speculated that Kaye's involvment was not credited correctly, and it seems to be the case! Truly a team player & a class act! He writes the most identifiable melody off of 90125, and not credit to the man!
Thanks to Mr. Tiano for the excellent questions posed to Mr. Rabin. Not the standard general questions, but informed & researched questions answered quite elonquently by Rabin.
Clarification on the whole "Angus Young" thing, was it an actual riff that he played alongside HOWE, or was he doing the whole "DUCKWALK" thing during this part? Anyone seen this or have it on tape?

I thought the interview was first-rate, a good job by Tiano, and the best overall Rabin interview I've ever read ... I think Rabin's graciousness, diplomacy and upbeat attitude speak volumes about Yes history, and not just about Rabin himself. It was great to see Tony being praised, and given his due, and by someone who has been labeled an usurper! I would like to see interviews of this quality with more Yes members (I have noticed that sometimes NFTE is on the mark, and other times not so much ... but this surely speaks well of what can be accomplished when a good interviewer catches a Yes veteran in the right place at the right time ...)

It's a great interview, and I agree with Q., the best Rabin interview I've ever read. Yes Magazine interviewed him when Talk was out, but he was almost defensive in that one (YM was definitely a Trooper's publication).

I believe the Tony Kaye question was answered beyond any doubt. He was very important to the band, and my impression was he was more involved than most people realized, and, as TR said, he played a lot of the keys because he was also a keyboardist who happened to write the songs. Tony seemed to be least involved in the making of 90125, but he still helped to create the music. Kaye, I believe, is underrated in so much as he's always compared to Wakeman, Moraz, etc...We're talking about the greatest keyboard players ever!! Just watch 9012Live--Kaye is excellent.

Again, an excellent interview and I believe a good clarification of Tony Kaye's role in the band.
