View Full Version : They've only gone and bloody regenerated....
Which Roundabout?

Younger fresher Yes? You're not kidding!! They've actually gone and regenerated (and I mean that in the full Doctor Who sense!).
They're not a sad tribute band. They're not a bunch of old dinosaurs crashing about on their last legs. They're not a parody. They're not just 'plugging the gaps'.
This IS Younger Fresher Yes!
I'm not saying forget about Jon and Rick - I'm just saying open your ears and listen to what we've got going on here - and wow!!
Last night at Newcastle, there were 16 year old girls moshing to Roundabout, right up against the stage. They'd made their own T-shirts and were right into it. In fact, we were all going a bit mental down at the front. It brought me out in goosebumps all over.
Don't miss this!!

I'm now eagerly awaiting Manchester!

Totally agree, I was absolutely stoked up to see them in Edinburgh burning like hell on stage.
Don't miss this version of Yes. Even if they never record an album they have at least given us shows to die for. I hope they capture the best parts of this UK tour and release a double CD with a Roger Dean cover.

Well even though jon was always the kingpin for me i have to say last night i saw the future of yes.
There was new life in some of the songs especially the drama tracks and new life in steve howe as well, he was on fire.
I have very high hopes for any future albums and i hope they get in the studio soon.
Jon will always have my support and i wish him well but i fear that its the end of the road for him and yes judging by the fans reaction to the new lineup.
I also thought i was a bit of a yes fan until i met those mega fans last night, true yesheads who had dragged there arses up and down the country and half way around the world to support the band.
hi to true believer, martin, the girl from darlo i think who i never really got time to talk to[do you post on hear], the scouse lad, the Scandanavions, and the lad i was talking to about the union tour[whats your name on hear] . Enjoy the rest of the tour and maybe we,ll meet again when they tour the new album.

We were lucky to see this Band 1 year ago here in the USA. They are really on a tear now and having FUN......with the Support off all you YESFANS in the UK, they will now have the confidence that they are........ YES.....
They will bring us into 2010 with NEW YES Music...
Who would have thunk it!

Yeah, it was a really good gig last night. Drama and Onward!
David really stole the show for me; his performance was outstanding and there really is potential with Oliver too. The only slight downer was that Steve and Chris were often too high in the mix, drowning out the vocals and the keyboards. Even Steve couldn't hear what Oliver was playing; he was pointing this out and leaning over for visual cues.
And please, Chris, get some looser pants!
But on the whole, these guys have the potential and I can see it going places; new music would be great. Really great!!
Steve Hackett tomorrow at Holmfirth. Anyone going?

I have to agree about the crowd reaction. The audience at the front during Roundabout & Starship Trooper were going mental! I've never seen that at a Yes concert before. It's usually pretty sedate even during the encore but this was something else....

Someone jumped on stage during Starship Trooper (no it wasn't me) i was in the balcony. The best place for perfect sound is middle centre, next to the soundboard.
My microphone was hanging over the balcony in mid air and caught the balance perfectly,if a little crude.

One of my very favourite venues. Sadly I don't get to go there very often, and Newcastle is a great city.

Great to hear that the tour is going over so well in the UK! Saw them twice in the US in the past 12 months and it totally reenergized my love for the band :-)

Review from local paper. Pretty positive about Benoit, but typical lazy journalism when describing the hall as being half empty. Possibly the best crowd of all the shows I attended.

Agreed, but to be fair to the journalist he does emphasise that empty seats = a lost opportunity.
This was a fantastic concert in a brilliant atmosphere at, probably, my favourite venue. I like the title of this thread - in Steve we have a completely rejuvenated 'Doctor' who seems liberated (without Jon). Chris, of course, is the tardis - bigger in life than you can possibly imagine and the band as a whole are, once again, more than the sum of the individuals. This is a happy BAND &, for us patient devotees, this tour is what it is all about.
Newcastle was just great, even more enjoyable as a concert than Hammersmith. Here's to this regenerated, rejuvenated, solid and fun (!) band !!

Thanks for that, J.
Whoever shot that must have been sitting very near my seat in the balcony, because like me they also couldn't see Steve. Afetr a couple of songs I got fed up leaning out over the rail to catch a glimpse of Steve so I moved downstairs to a vacant seat in the stalls.
And then I moved again during the last two numbers ! ;)

I was only planning to send this video clip to Ian and Brian as a souvenir as it's pretty poor quality (my battery was all but gone). But since I happened to catch both the home-made t-shirt girls and the guy that jumped on stage, maybe it's worth a look for some of you.
My server is very slow, so it may require download before playing:

BTW, I very much enjoyed sharing the experience with all of you in Edinburgh & Newcastle!

Have you downloaded the file? To do this, right click on the link and select "save target as". Once you have the file you need a program to run it - do you have Apple Quicktime - the file is an mp4 file so Quicktime will run it? If you don't have Quicktime then you need another program to watch the file.
I played it using both Quicktime and VLC.

Thanks for that Bryan. I trust you got home safely, and 2.5 hours sleep was sufficient on Saturday night before your flight to Newark!
You shouldn't have told me you had never seen part 2 of QPR!! :-), and thanks for the Tikka.

It's taken me 3 days of wrestling with technology and downloading various extra computery bits, but I've ACTUALLY GOT THE VIDEO TO WORK!!
Thank you - it's great! All looks strangely much more sedate - and I don't even remember that guy getting up on the stage, even though it must have happened right in front of my nose. Just hotting up at the end there and it stops - ah well...
Still brought me out in goosebumps all over again...
I'm at Newcastle University...I wished I'd stayed here and gone to the Newcastle event! Manchester was good though :)

Gosh, didn't see too many of those at the Belfast gig! Probably just as well, for the sake of my old ticker!

Yep it was....the whole show was excellent. I took my 16 yr old daughter and she was blown away!!!! We were 5 rows back....and her youthful enthusiasm helped get myself and the people around us to our feet before Trooper!!!!Hopefully there'll be more opportunities in future. (By the way, the "official" recording of the gig is top quality......I'm nothing to do with the company that sells them either!)
All the best to everyone!!!!
