Now that CS has confirmed that JA is no longer in Yes and will not be touring with them or indeed involved in the new album, what are his best options from here.
He can continue to do the solo shows with his guitar but I think that this show has run its course.
Rather than abbrieviated Yes songs etc on his own would he not be better to tour with say a accoustic guitarist (+/- backing tracks) backing him up so that he can concentrate on his greatest talent ie his voice and his lyrics. Play from his extensive solo work more plus some Yes stuff.
This would hopefully not be too taxing on his health and not overlaying taxing on the tour budget either.
With his backdrop videos etc this could be a very good show.
I hope his health continues to improve so that he can continue to sing live next year.

Maybe this is the way to go. If Jon and Rick have apparently burned their bridges regarding YES, they could team up. They've done it before, and I would be just as happy to see them as the other guys anyway.

I would love to see Rick & Jon. I would likely not go see SHW or Yes or whatever again in 2010 if they toured because I paid to see them 4 times already without Jon and I currently don't have two nickels to rub together. I guess if they put out an album that blew me away.... maybe.
But to see Jon and Rick? I'd sell a kidney to see them. Not my kidney, but that of a dear friend of mine. Wouldn't even care if there were other instruments.

I saw Jon and Rick in Bristol in 2006. Jon was in great voice and the new songs showed a great deal of promise quite different from YES.
Next time I would like to seem them augment the line up with the acoustic guitarist and bass player from Ricks band, so its very much unplugged which suits Jon's musical preference and health but enabling them to finesse and flesh out the arrangements.
As regards the set list there is so much work that could be revived and/or revised and finished off
Revive
Days
Take Your Time
Song of Seven
Bounderies
Anyone Can Light a candle
Ankor Wat
The Meeting
Take The Water To the Mountain
etc etc
Finish Off
Axle of Love
Picasso
Richard
The Spell
Pieces from Chagall & Zamran
That there really is no need to look at Yes Material.
Also make sure Jon plays to his strengths, keep him away from the piano.

I dunno....
I think I'd rather see Jon and Rick with three others.. Rabin would be great too if he'd want to do it.
But I wouldn't mind a completely fresh rhythm section.
And YES...lots of solo stuff and dusted-off gems. Maybe some new music too.
Stuff from Olias could be stellar.

I guess I'm getting old. I like the stripped down acoustic nature of the clips I heard Jon singing recently—I just think the accompaniment needs to be better, and with Rick it surely would. I don't want to deal with all the mix issues, just the essence of the songs. I do understand your point though and I'm sure I'm in the minority.

Would Rick and Jon be allowed to perform YES stuff???? Legal issues there???
If Rick and Jon got together and they could do Yes stuff I'd like to see it in the formatt that Rick did on his solo tour in which he did tunes and told stories from the road. To have both of them up there telling stories about the road, about the tunes would be very cool. Rick pulled it off WELL when he did it.
But to my first point is there any legal issues with them doing YES stuff?
Like the current lineup I woudl think to some point evven if a small thing the other guys may want to keep pthe fires stoaked a little and do some old stuff.
I FULLY support the cueent Yes but I hope we don't lose a big part of the old Yes. I hope some day they all can be one again for one more run. Put the ego's aside perhaps.

I think that as long as ASCAP, BMI and so forth get paid then anyone can play pretty much anybody's song, no permission slip required. I remember seeing both Roger Waters and Dehydrated Floyd in 1987 and their sets had quite a few songs in common.

I think I would love a collaboration between Jon Anderson and Roine Stolt. Frankly, if a hypothetical Anderson/Stolt album came out the same day as a hypothetical Yes album from the current lineup, I only had the money for one and I hadn't heard either one then Jon and Roine would be the ones getting my money.
Of course if a new CIRCA: album also came out that same day then I'd have to go with that one.

I think if you've followed Bill's career lately, you'd see there's very little chance of him recording anything that Jon would be into. Bill is doing a lot of conversational jazz based on technical improvisation.
I'm TL would be onboard if there was room in his schedule and the money was there (no to diss on him, but he is a top tier guy and worth every penny).
I don't see Jon really having the $$$ to put together an "all star" band - it would have to be either some other Yes members for a "counter Yes" or some second/third tier guys only some of us have heard of. More likely people he's met locally in Santa Barbara or like the folks he's been collaborating over the internet. It's a practical matter of simply being cheaper to put a band like that together.

Jon asked me to write a song for Yes. He said "put everything you'd like to hear in a Yes song" and this was it.
It's meant to be played by Yes and sung by Jon. The guitar parts are Steve's, ditto.. bass... ditto everything.

Well, a project with Anderson, Wakeman, and Rabin would be interesting. Supposedly, Anderson and Rabin had been working on some stuff before Anderson's health issues. Also, Rabin did want to have Wakeman part of Yes when they did the Talk album. I think it's natural for some fans to want to see what would come of this partnership given their history together and they all had a big part of the Yes legacy. I think it would be cool to add Billy Sherwood into the mix because he is a talented bass player and was a member of Yes. I'd really enjoy seeing those four create something. It will never happen, but it could make for some interesting ear candy.

Jon could take his 'revenge' (as he may want to see it but he kept the Yes hanging too long) with a new supergroup with Transatlantic as role model. Get a few big names together, not perse with a Yes past as that will continue the ABWH vs. YesWest battle and we're done with that.
Musicians from bands such as Styx, Journey, Kansas, Genesis, Peter Gabriel, Pink Floyd even (what's Gilmour doing these days?), create a wonderful album and take it on the road. Call it The Infinitive and surprise the world...
Either that or...well...GET SOME OF THOSE TRILLION PROJECTS OUT THERE MAN! ZAMRAN? CHAGALL? TRUE YOU TRUE ME? UZLOT? ANDY & WAKEY! AND MANY MORE!
Or just form a band to tour with and play a fine selection of your entire 40 year career; YES, solo, J&V songs...
Lots of options possible but please get your act together and stop this collaborating with everybody who send in two notes of a song. The majority is erm...rubbish (as unfinished as they might seem)
There, I said it.

Add a guitarist (I'd love to see Trevor Rabin with Wakeman) that sings and you open the door for some past material(s) worth hearing.
I also agree with the idea of letting go of the YES name regarding all the fine musicians that have travelled upon their Starship. It's time !

I think of an Anderson/Wakeman tour as the two of them playing songs which aren't designed for two (that is, Yes songs), some sub-par solo material, and telling stories/jokes appreciated only by the most die-hard fans who didn't get enough of this stuff last time Rick came around.
As far as a musical project involving additional musicians - I'm in fact skeptical of any involving whom I see as a much mellower, new-agey, and self-absorbed Jon Anderson. With him at the helm, I'm afraid that the other players' contributions ("big names" or not) would be compromised.

What i would love to see from Jon is the completion and release of Zamran, hopefully a New Age vision in spades!
But Jon needs to set himself a deadline and focus on it, he has bandied about with it for long enough. He should decide it's length, he's talked about multiple CDs, but to make it manageable one or at most two CD's is more than enough, if that isn't big enough for his concept then it could be Zamran Part 1. As a sequel to Olias I think he should take primary responsibility for it, make the album at his own studio, using his large imagination. Concentrate on shaping the musical, lyrical and concept material he has. Call on some of his collaborators to give additional colour in places. I'd love to hear some Rich Goodhart collaboration as a part of it, I was excited to hear they had done some work together, I love Rich's Earth Spiral Water Sound and think it has some great synergies with Jon's work. Bruce Baldwin's arrangements could also add great colour as well as work from Stephen and Tom. He shouldn't think about a recording contract, as record companies are unlikely to find this concept young and sexy, get distribution through amazon, should be able to find others too. Main thing put some time into it, build some great vocal textures, tell some fantastic stories.
That is my little dream scenario. I want Zamran!

Our female lead singer would blend nicely with him. Hell, we'd even play tunes from EARTHMOTHEREARTH with him if he wanted.
No more acoustic Jon tours !!! I saw the first one, and while I love Jon, this is not his strength. It is nice for a few tunes for him to be on an acoustic, and him to tell some stories (not too many - Jon is on another plane), he really is a lead man for a band. His voice, vision & leadership of a group is his strength.
