View Full Version : New book about Yes in Australia - who would be interested in buying?

I am in the late stages of publishing a book about the two Yes tours of Australia - should be available this year.

The book will cover their CTTE tour in 1973 and the Full Circle 2003 tour. It includes contemporary reviews, fans reminiscences and excerpts from interviews with the band. It also cover the formation of YesFANZ and the role it played in getting Yes & Roger Dean to Australia in 2003.

It will be around 200 pages text with 20 pages of photos.

I will be self publishing so the number produced will influence price.

At present I envisage a price of $Aud15-20 ($US 12.25-16.30) +pph

This would simply cover the publishing costs - it is intended to be cost neutral.

Please let me know if you are interested in purchasing a copy and I'll keep you informed of when it will be available.

I'm working on the photos at present

It looks likely that there will be previously unpublished 1973 tour pro-shot photos of Rick and 2003 photos too

I should add that there will be previously unpublished pro-shot concert pictures of the whole group from the 73 tour in Australia - just working on that now but its very exciting.

The photos are as good (if not better!) as any I have seen from the era

Just a quick update on my book.

I had hoped to have it ready for Christmas but it now looks more likely to be available around Easter

The book is written, I have 10 pro-shot concert photos from Sydney 1973 (9 previously unpublished), around 15 pro shot unpublished photos from Sydney 2003 plus numerous other photos and graphics.

The cover will be one of Roger Dean's Yes album covers

I am in discussion with a publisher about finalising the production.

Will let everyone know when it becomes available and how to get a copy.

I'm not sure - that is one of the issues to be resolved. The number and quality of the photos and graphics has increased since then so I suspect the price will have to reflect that - but the plan is to keep it as affordable as possible.

This book will not be funding my retirement plan LOL

Brian, even if the final price is twice what you originally estimated, it's worth it for the photos that have never been seen before.

Australia is so tame.

And YES so doesn't rock.

And I'm about as apt to buy a copy of this book as I would be apt to buy a copy of a new YES album if such a thing were ever to be released again in my lifetime.

We should buy at least one of each next year.

Count me in! Sounds like a wonderful project. Thanks for this labor of love - What makes this so special is you're doing it for the diehard fan community (and your own enjoyment!). But I still think you should shoot to fund at least the first month of your retirement - I'm sure Yesfans would be happy to provide a bit of compensation for your work!

Its been a busy few days organising the book launch as well as working on the final graphics for the book.

We had a meeting at the Roxbury Hotel on Sunday - members of Tramtracks (Robert Forbes, Toivo Pilt and Graeme James) who are putting the final touches to their album 'You' that will be launched with the book were there as we looked over the areas we will use.

Meanwhile, I have received the cover graphic from Roger Dean - Pathways from the 'Yessongs' album and the font will be using his 'Ladder' font.

Then a meeting with the publisher to sort out issues relating to the photos/graphics, deadlines for printing, marketing & distribution etc. I am in the process of setting up arrangements for online merchandising.

Today has been about sorting as near as I can get the final choice and arrangement of photos and graphics - thankfully I'm on leave this week to do it.

32 pages of photos/graphics on photo quality paper

Overall there will be about 50 photos/graphics so I hope this will be of interest to many

Will keep everyone updated as we move along

Only just seen this, but it sounds great, I'd love a copy. I'm in Sydney last 2 weeks of March, would love to extend to be at the unveiling, but don't think thats possible. Don't suppose there is any chance of picking up a pre-release copy while I'm down under?

Cheers, Tony

PS If any of the Aussies who post on here could reccommend any good gigs during that period I'd appreciate it.

I tried to get permission to use it but ownership of it is complicated and I was told that it would only be sanctioned for 'official' Yes projects - and that has legal ramifications to resolve in doing that.

It should be available for pre-order around Easter and for sale by April 18
