Hi guys,

could you help me in understanding the exact reason why the cover features Steve Howe together with the other Yes members, while the credits feature Peter Banks playing guitar on that album..?

As far as I know, the picture was taken right at the time Steve joined the band and Peter quit, and the album should have been released after Peter's departure.. As well, if I remember well, in the "No Opportunity Necessary, No Experience Needed" video Steve, and not Peter, appears..

Does anybody know the right tale behind this fact? Thanks! :appl[1]:

The album was released in the UK a few month's before it was released. In the UK the album was issued with this cover :

By the time it was released in the US, Howe had joined, and Atlantic's US division used a then current publicity shot:

as far as the "Video".....

there is one clip, available on the "Live at Musikladen" (sp?) video, that is in Black & White from the German Beat Club TV show with Banks on Guitar, this is a true "live" preformance ......

There is also a clip from a BBC Special (Go the the Tradin Room forum and look for a DVD called "Before & Beyond"), that is Lip Synced and does show Howe on guitar, I believe that it's the one woth Bruford driving a Dune Buggy with the rest of the band inside ...there are a few other tunes from TAAW featured on this show as well (If I recall correctly, Astral Traveller, Then, and Everydays....)

I hope that helps....and anyone feel free to add to or make corrections...

Also the original cover art with female upper "nudiddy" couldn't come out in the US so they looked for a shot of the band, which by then included Steve...

Ahhhh...didn't know that tidbit, but makes sense....what about the 1st album, why did it have a band pic instead of the cartoon logo?

One of the issues that led to Peter's departure was his distaste for the orchestrations that were being added, often overpowering the guitar or organ leads.

After hearing live versions of these songs, I have to say...Peter was probably right. Of course, Tony Kaye's reluctance to use synths and Mellotrons are what probgably led to the use of the orchestrations.

In any case, Peter was out, Steve was in, and the rest is prog rock history.

I'm sorry for Peter, whose work in the first two albums was very well-done, but this is nonetheless the truth!

I do kind of wish that Yes would validate Peter's contribution to the group. During recent interviews, Steve has spoken rather complimentary about Peter's work with Yes when talking about Astral Traveler. It would be nice to see him fill in on a couple of early songs at some point. Seems like every other former member of Yes (save Igor) has a good relationship with the band. A lot of time has past. Peter should get his due (give a listen to the live version of Every Little Thing...dude can play).
