Well, the same question about different Yes family member.
I'm editing Russian Wiki article about Jon.
Нow to pronounce сorrectly - "Bruford"? I mean one letter - "u"
As "a" - in words "car", "bar" etc.
or as "u" - in "boots", "mount" etc. For me it's not important if sound is long or not - I mean - "A" or "U" ?
Please, help!

To say it correctly you must be sitting in a english garden while sipping tea dreaming of blood pudding.

Tea maybe. Blood pudding? nah... it's Black pudding on this side of the pond!

I daresay Mr Howe can pronounce "Bruford" but I doubt he has sweet dreams of black puddings.

You need to check and learn the IPA (International Phonetic Alphabet)
/'bru:fed/
the e - should be upside down but I can't do it with my keyboard - means that it's an unstressed syllable, the "or" is not clearly pronounced as such.

What a great question!

I'm loving the diverse nature of the answers. We English are so cocky, we just take it for granted everyone should be able to speak English. It had never occured to me that Bruford was a difficult word - which shows I am a stereotypical ignorant English man.

Until the Robert Ludlum Books and spin off films even the English had trouble spelling my surname - and some of them pronouncing it!

Thank God for Robert Ludlum!

On the subject at hand, I'd go for Brew Fud - but then you have to take into account the regional variations in the English Isles. I am from the centre of the country and pronounce 'book' as b -oo - k. My Southern brethren woulkd say buk? Ahh I love this country!

Russian problem is that while people in the USSR listened to Yes, Wakeman, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin back in the 70-80s - English language itself was for them as Ancient Greek or Latin for you - because it was hard to find real English-speaking foreigner here with whom it was possible to talk about modern music - so some mistakes in pronouncing and writing are going back to the 70s.
Usual mistakes (even in Rock encylcopaedias and Russian Classic Rock journal) - Yohn Andreson, Yohn Lord and Bill Broughford ;)
