I just read about Billy's current solo project and am digging the theme. I teach a class in multidimensional reality and two of the areas that we explore are lucid dreaming and dream interpretation.
Questions for you Billy, do you keep a dream journal and do you experience lucid dreaming?
Cheers and bravo.

I don't know about Billy, but I have been training myself to dream lucidly for years. I have always had extremely vivid dreams...both good and bad...and sought a means to control them a bit. I found a book called "The Lucid Dreamer," which reads like a textbook, but I love it. I still go back and revisit the exercises it suggests, just to keep my mind sharp.
I will never forget the first time that I realized that I had complete control over my dream. Strangely, I was completely blind, but according to the book that is somewhat normal. I had complete confidence as I went skiing, hang gliding and bike riding without sight. All of my other senses were extremely sensitive, and I had the best time!

Very cool DY. There is a great book about the various planes of consciousness that one can explore when one becomes lucid in dreams. It's called Otherwhere, I highly recommend it.

So how many dimensions are there? The physicists are asking.

In Theosophy there are 8 planes of consciousness. Physical, astral, mental, causal, buddhic, nirvanic, monadic and the Source itself.

Cool! I'll call the physics department ;)
Do you practice theosophy? I don't really know anything about it, but don't they believe there is some sort of spiritual analog to everything in our apparent world?

Years ago while reading Carlos Castaneda, I looked for my hands in my dreams. An exercise Don Juan would give Carlos. I eventually did look at my hands in my dreams and would recall being able to fly. I also kept a journal for a spell and some time after I'd stopped writing, I re-read my dreams and was blown away by just how strange they were.

I have had some really strange ones... it's fascinating how when you wake up all of what seemed perfectly logical in the dream sublimes away.

I think it's probably more accurate to say that the theosophical view is something I resonate with but I don't really align myself with any particular group or religion. I like the fact that Theosophists have an open door policy and welcome all religions. They've gotten stuck in some dogma along the way but who hasn't?
Yes, they do believe that everything that shows up in our physical reality is a symbol for information that is coming through from a higher level of our being and that is trying to teach us or facilitate our growth in some way.

Hmmm . . . interesting.
I used to be very good at dream analysis . . .
My dreams are ALWAYS in color. Except for one reoccurring dream I used to have in my preteen years - looming storm and I knew I had to warn my parents. It was then that I would always awaken. After several reruns, sometimes months apart, I deliberately went back to sleep to finish the dream. I warned my parents, the dream became color, and it never returned.
In my twenties I had a "flying" dream. I was in a familiar place outside, and was suddenly "lifted" twenty or forty feet in the air. I remember worrying that people might mistakenly think I might be in danger. I quickly discovered that I could control the flying with thought and subtle movements (pretty much a head nod in the direction I wished to go).

OK, now you've lost me . . . The word theosophy has been used for 2,000 years to describe knowledge of divine things or knowledge derived from insight and experience as well as intellectual study. This sounds more like a westernization of Buddhist or Krishnic (is that even a word?) teachings to me. It doesn't sound like the century-old Theosophical Society, from the vague knowledge I have of that.
Actually, this sounds vaguely to me like the Timothy Leary 8 Circuit Model of Consciousness, but probably only because one of his "Circuits" was named Buddha-Monad.
So, from whence do these "8 planes of consciousness" derive?
And what do they have to do with the thread topic?

The thread topic relates to dreams and when we dream we are in the astral body.
The 8 planes of consciousness are not exclusive to Theosophy, although you can find reference to them in the writings of Annie Besant and Charles Leadbeater (two of the leading figures of Theosophy from the last century). You can also find reference to the 8 planes of consciousness in the Kriya lineage of teachers. This includes Paramahansa Yogananda, who wrote Autobiography of a Yogi, the book that inspired Tales From Topographic Oceans. There are actually many spiritual practices and systems which explore these planes of consciousness.

Yep, the "planes of consciousness" are a staple of many spiritual systems, I'd just not heard of a list of eight before (that I recall . . .) . . . except for Timmy Leary's odd collection. I seem to remember lists of seven.

Yes, in my flying dream(s), the one I recall vividly was the one where I was walking down to a local liquor store and actually flew up past the power lines (not afraid) and flew past my grade school, where I saw my neighbor Karen (who had passed away) and flew down to hug her and chat . . . I woke up feeling fulfilled and happy to have said 'goodbye' to my dear friend.

Hi Jay,
I don't keep a dream journal but I do have several recurring dreams... for ages now and several of those concepts are in "Onierology".
For instance... the song "The Gate" is based on a recurring dream. Before my son was born my wife and I had talks about a pool gate, since we had none around it and knew we had to do something it was a hot topic for weeks... So much so that I began dreaming about the gate. The dream was the same each time... I wake up or think I am awake anyways sitting on the edge of my bed looking through my window to the pool and an open gate. In the pool is a shadowy figure lying facedown and in still waters {yes rather creepy indeed is what I thought}. No matter what I did I could not move myself to investigate, I knew the gate needed to be closed and seeing a figure in the water just freaked me out... I've heard some say in dreams every charactre you dream is actually yourself manifested into the dream...some how "I knew it was me there beyond the gate". The dream appeared as a huge warning sign of danger and it became a recurring dream, over and over and over untill we installed the actual gate {before my son was born}. Since then I have never have that dream again...

I too manipulate my dreams from time to time but never thought about it much... I recall having a dream about aliens chasing me around {shortly after seeing aliens 3 lol} and somewhere in the dream I decided "wouldn't it be fun to chase them instead of them chasing me" so i turned the tables on the aliens and ran around after them.... I recently told my son, "you know can control your dreams if you try" ? He's 6 ... and looking at me like... "Dad's lost his marbles" lol... He'll figure it out in his own time I guess http://www.yesfans.com/images/icons/icon10.gif
