There are a couple other threads on this, in the dvd forum, which is where this is about to be moved. The general consesus is that its not that great. I like the dts mix of Heart of the Sunrise, but some of the other songs sound a bit "weird". It does have an excellant stereo mix, though.

I got this dvd-a just after Christmas, and frankly I don't know what you lot are talking about. IT IS EXCELLENT!!
FRAGILE was the album that first got me into YES all those misty years ago and this was like rediscovering it. Awesome!! There are parts in there that I have never heard before. I personally can't wait for the release of all the other albums an dvd-a.
Are you lot on drugs or are you listening to it through naff equipment or what?
This DVD-A rocks!!!

I also liked it, but the general problem seems to be those parts you never heard before. Since they weren't on the original mix, they sound out of place in some cases.

I would say that they add to it. They are there you just can't hear them properly on CD. I don't think any of it sounded out of place, to me it made a classic album even better!!

My experience (as posted elsewhere) is that the various tracks are not mixed together well in the 5.1 Surround (which is the whole reason to buy it on DVDa in the first place.) The most obvious "offense" can be heard on "We Have Heaven". Jon sings four or five different vocal lines - each of which is placed separately in the mix. The first couple sound fine. The later two (or few) are almost nonexistent. It's not that they've layered them with a bunch of "reverb" (which gives it a distant sound). It's that there almost inaudible as they're so quiet.

That's not what the original album sounds like at all. It's not too many new things brought forward in the mix. It's too many key pieces being lost.

I don't know what you're listening to it on, but it doesn't sound like that to me!!

I've got quite a few DVD-Audio's and this one is one of the worst. Magnification is far better as far as the mix goes. You get a true sense of envelopement that is lacking from Fragile. Still, I won't hisitate to go out and purchase CTTE. Something's just not quite right with Fragile. I was dissappointed after great anticipation.

I would disagree!! It sounds fine to me, much better than Magnification. There must be something wrong with your ears!! There is nothing wrong with Fragile at all.

I haven't heard it, but GOLDENCAT, just because someone's opinion is different than yours doesn't mean they're 'on drugs', have 'naff' equipment or 'something wrong with their ears'. Please try not to be so insulting. Everyone's allowed an opinion here...

Peace

I have it, and I think the stereo mix is the best I've ever heard, the dts is OK, but the DVD-Audio is really weird and I don't like it.

I still like Heart of the Sunrise, but its no match in sound quality to Magnification or Blue Man Group's Audio.

I would have to agree to an extent with some of the comments here. I don't think the 5.1 or thE DTS mixes are particularly good.

The sound equalisation between front and rear speakers does not sound right. There seems to be an awful lot of reverb on some tracks, and the ending of South Side just sounds weird, with Steve's guitar phasing in and put of the speakers.

I know Tim Weidner who did the mix has worked with Yes before, think he did some of the CD remasters, did'nt he? But it sounds to me like one persons interpretation of what the album should sound like.

I don't agree that the mix brings out sounds that were never previously heard on a 2 speaker system - the idea of doing a 6 channel mix of an album is to enhance it, not to make it sound radically different, surely?

Usually once you have your system set the way you like it, you very rarely have to change the settings at all, either for movies or DVDA's. Occcasionally, perhaps, I may increase the level of the rear surround speakers or centre channel on older movies, and the same when playing notmal audio CD's.

I have 2 other DVDA's, Magnification and Queens Night At The Opera, and they sound fine without any need for tweaking.

No, this just does not sound right to me at all.

Fragile is one of my favorites so though I haven't seen it, I appreciate the effort.

It DOES bring out sound not previously heard on a 2 channel mix. What is the point of the same mix through 6 speakers? I can get the cd of FRAGILE to play through 6 speakers without the need for a 5.1 mix. I think all of you are missing the point completely about 5.1

This is off topic, and may not be important news to many that would read this thread, but in case you didn't see it, Dark Side of the Moon will be released in 5.1 surround on April 1st. The bad news is is its coming out on SACD, and not dvd audio.

Again, off topic: The Moody Blues' DAYS OF FUTURE PAST is a very good DVDA. The only album of theirs to really get my attention, it was satisfying from the opening gong to the closing gong.

I was as so disappointed with my FRAGILE DVDA that I played it once and put it on the shelf where it has remained. I need to revisit it. First, I'll go back to my owner's manual and verify that I've set up my speakers correctly (calculating the time-delay based on how many feet away from listening spot they're placed.) It's a very good album (though not even close to being my favorite Yes album) and deserves another chance.
