Hello!
I just purchased the LIVE From House Of Blues DVD. It will not work in my Sony DVD player. It will not work in my Playstation 2 and it will only play the interviews on my HP computer. It will not play the actual concert in any of these players.
Could I actually have 3 players that can't support this disc or do I have a DVD that is bad? Am I doing something wrong?
I purchased the CD at a FYE (big audio/visual store) in my local mall.
I'm dying without seeing this show!!!

More than likely it is a defective disc. Beyond Music has admitted that many of the initial pressings were bad. You may have gotten one of them.

I had my HOB replaced by beyond,if I can find the address I will post it. My other problems with Yes DVD's is the need to get off their lazy butts and release more.

I tried going to Beyond's website, but nothing is there anymore!
I know if I go back to my local FYE, I'll probably just get another defective disc. What should I do?

It seems wierd that the interviews will work, but the actual concert won't. I had to replace my copy after only 2 1/2 years of onwning it because the two layers of the disc actually separated and no player could read it. Unfortunately, DVDs are extremely cheaply made making the life of them extremely short (as was the case of the HOB disc). When you get a replacement copy, try to get one where the metal DOES NOT go into the middle section of the disc (the inner ring of the DVD). The replacement copy I got was made this way, and seems to be made a little better than the earlier DVDs where the metal does go into the center. Hopefully, it will last at least 10 years.

It is my understanding that Beyond is pretty much history. I'd suggest getting your money back from Fye, and try to get it elsewhere.

The initial ones released to the stores became defective after a short period of time. Air got into the middle of the discs, and made them unplayable. I had one that was fine for awhile, then wouldn't play past AYAI. I had it replaced by Beyond. I'm hoping the replacement lasts longer than the first one did.

I called FYE. They said they could get me a replacement in 2 weeks. I asked them if they could open it when it comes in and test it, but they supposedly don't have a DVD player in the store.
So, I'll probably get home...find out this replacement is defective too and then drive back and complain again. The manager doesn't believe it's defective, she thinks it's me. "They always tell us when items are defective." Yeah right.
I told her to read this forum.
Well, if the next one is defective, hopefully they'll give me credit for the Symphonic or Keys DVDs! How would you rank the DVD choices?

The Symphonic disc is quite possibly the best quality concert dvd ever released.

I got this DVD when it first came out. I bought 2 copies actualy and they played fine. Then all of a sudden they would not play anymore. the DVD player kept saying Disc Error!
Anyway other YesFans on the old southside.org list had the same problem and one of the group, Dave Westbay, sent a letter to Beyond Music and this is the response he got...........

I received your letter today regarding defective "House Of Yes: Live From
House Of Blues" DVDs. I have indeed gotten some complaints regarding this
disc, and have replaced every disc sent to me with a newly-manufactured
copy.
Please send your disc to my attention and I will replace it. It is not
necessary to send the packaging, just the disc itself.
Please also let any of your contacts know I am equally willing to replace
their DVDs.
I am disappointed that you perceive a lack of response from Beyond on this
matter. As far as I know, everyone with whom I've interacted has received a
replacement disc in a timely manner. I have sent discs as far as Indonesia
and Japan.
Here is where to send the disc:

Thanks for the favorable review of the DVD. We at Beyond are quite proud of
it and eager to replace any defects.

So now you know what to do. I sent my 2 defective discs back to the USA and for my trouble they sent me 4 good discs back within 3 weeks. I have given away the extra copies to friends.

Beyond Music is no more. Sending your disc to them will not work. FYE has told me it will take 6 to 8 weeks to get a replacement copy. And they don't even know if it will arrive then.
Does anyone know a place to buy the HOUSE OF YES DVD that has it in stock AND in actual working condition?
I bought SYMPHONIC to hold me over....Awesome sound and video work!

Everyone answered a lot of my questions. I thought I was going crazy with this DVD. So far the audio CD of HOB has been working fine. Should I expect this to also defect in the near future?

Don't worry .. your audio CD will be just fine. This type of problem only seems to happen with DVD's that have been manufactured poorly.
It's something to do with air getting trapped between the layers of the DVD disc when it is stamped. It is sometimes known as DVD Disc Rot.
It's not normally something you associate with normal audio CD's.

I recently bought my HOB DVD from Amazon, and so far, it is fine. I would also recommend the YesSymphonic DVD, as it is outstanding! Looks like everyone in the band and orchestra are clearly enjoying themselves.
