I have been listening to this CD on repeat at the gym this last couple of weeks and I must say I was completely wrong about it when it first came out. Yes, there are a couple of weaker tracks but on the whole if f*cking rocks. Seriously motivational as well.

Get on the cross trainer, play it loud, get those legs opening and closing and see what I mean. Fantastic. :beerchugr:

I'm only familiar with the title track; I think it is great driving music, especially in the morning. I may download the whole thing now.

I have revisited this album in recent years and, although I've always dug the hell out of the first 3 tunes, I am liking the rest of it more and more too.

When my workout gets up to 45 min methinks I'll be spinning this. good idea Brian!!

there are a few foot-tappers on there, but overall I just can't get into it... also, am still disappointed that when I first put the disc in my player it showed the final track as some 20+ minutes in length (a new Yes epic?), but it turned out to be a hidden track of ambient sounds and vocal samples attached to the last song... kind of unnecessary from my POV...

I found Talk to have better bench press songs, mechanically natured tunes work best when pumping iron. I don't think Yes had circuit training in mind for any of their music, but we can make of it what we will.

Wrong, that final ambient track is one of the best ideas they had in their later days. real groundbreaking. I managed to find the song sources for each vocal harmonies except one. has anyone done this too? And it starts off with 3 or 4 amazing tracks. It only suffers from some weaker tracks in the 2nd half (Somehow, The solution, ...) Just edit those 2 in a program and you end up with a very honorable YES album.

I liked this album more than The Ladder, Magnification and maybe even Keys (studio), however, there are still too many songs I can't get into at all, which is the same as the aforementioned.

This album would of sold better under the name Yes Open your Legs, no doubt in my mind.

I dunno about this one.

(Walls just poped on radomly on my ipod just now, I kinda dig it for the straight forward vibe.)

I like the Yes logo on the cover.

Yeah, I thought it was dark, clean and powerful.

Unfortunately a lot of the music was too fluffy, save for the opening and closing tracks

Universal Garden is the -BEST !!!!!! I actually encorparated the lyrics into a thesis back in the 90's......
Looking up into the endless sky
Staring into the maze of time
Our existence caught in the blink of an eye
Imagining other worlds we try
Realizing somehow we're all part of this

Wondrous cosmical tapestry

Beyond the sun

Beyond the sky

Are where the real

Questions lie

Wanting to know

Where it begins

The puzzle piece

We are missing

Guess you can tell by the lyrics what that crazy thesis was about........I was quite the imaginator, eclectic thinker back then......
I recieved my MASTERS with flying colors so I guess they didn't think I was a total NUT !!!!

I'm really pleased to see this thread - & not just because of True's lycra photos.. - I've been having a bit of a re-appreciation of this album, myself of late. When if first came out I was very excited - New Yes music - great!! different for sure, but energetic & making an effort to steer in new directions.

Then I kind of went off it a bit - maybe cos everyone else dissing it made me think, oh maybe its not so great. Then I began to think 'well hey, why is everyone hating this' so I gave it another listen recently & thought - hey, y'know this IS pretty good.

We were introduced to Igor on keys - and he WAS good (even if he turned out to be a naughty boy) and re-introduced to Chris on the harmonica.

I met Dean-o on that tour* (he gave me his VIP pass for the aftershow party, tho I couldnt use it!) & he said he loved that cover - a lot easier than big scale pictures! He was joking - I think it was probably a budget thing..

So I give OYE a big thumbs up - after all, without it would we have had such a good run of Yes touring & striving to make new music?

And if you really dont like it, based on a listen a long time ago - give it another try.. see what you think.. see whether you think it's aged well.

To me (non-closet CIRCA fan that I am) it sounds great! very contemporary!

[*& Billy too, but that's another story]

I just gave OYE yet another spin today. Maybe my DNA is changing, but this album actually sounds really cheery and uplifting in these times with all the negative things in the world. I consider it to be a "musical therapy" of sorts. Perhaps it would be a good one to take walks and jogs to :)

If a year ago I voted this as the "worst" then I can only conclude now Yes has only good albums :) There are subtle note patterns in this album that can only be described as a spiritual hug for us all if we give this one a chance. To the 300+ that voted like me give OYE another chance :)

It might sound like a silly question, but which parts of the individual songs are performed by Billy Sherwood? I'm thinking of checking out Circa next :)
