This may be a re-hash, if so, my apologies.
Does anyone know if the original theatrical footage of Yessongs included Perpetual Change and all of Starship Trooper? If so, is it available? Does someone have it to share?

oops, I thought Starship Trooper could be found on youtube.com but the video there is an edited version...
Perpetual Change was not in the movie, having been filmed on the CTTE tour.

Nope and nope. I walked 3 miles in the rain back in '76 in Austin TX just to see it. You can hear most of Wurm during the credits with stills in the background. Basically, the VHS (and I assume DVD) is exactly the same as the theatrical release.

Perpetual Change, Long Distance Runaround and The Fish from Yessongs were taken from the Fragile tour (hence Bill Bruford on drums). They didn't playthese songs on the CTTE tour. So there certainly wouldn't be any film footage from the Yessongs project of them.
The interesting thing about Starship Trooper is that the version on Yessongs is the first time that Yes were known to have played the song live - this might not be actually true as set lists from The Yes Album tour in particular are incomplete. But there is no record of Yes playing Starship Trooper before that December 1972 set of shows at the Rainbow Theatre, London. I suspect that somewhere 'in the vaults' footage of the entire song exists but I have never seen it.

Thanks Brian, I thought that was Bill Bruford on Perpetual Change. The light touch and cymbal work were evident. The reason I asked is that I'm tabbing the complete Yessongs version of Perpetual Change. I'm up to the 10 minute mark now. I was hoping to verify Steve's fingering and fretboard positions against my own if the video existed somewhere.

Wow. If so, then I'm even more impressed with Rick and Steve's solos. As for The Fish, it seems to have evolved significantly over the Fragile Tour.

Your best bet would be to adhere to whatever snippets exist
on the "Sounding Out" video from the earlier part of the Fragile tour.

Perpetual Change was probably the song which caused me to fall deeply in love with Yes back in the seventies when I saw them perform at the New Haven Coluseuim. I didn't even make it to the end of the song before I realized this band was for me. The music and lyrics blew me away.......

PC is the song that hooked me to YES! then I saw that Fragile Tour. So it holds a special place in my heart because I can still remember sitting at my friends house toking a doobie and PC came on the radio. I was blown aay! It was like heaven

The first instrumental section is particularly interesting, in that everyone starts out in 7/8, but then Steve comes in with the chorus melody in 7/4, Bill starts going off on some syncopated trip, and Steve does his insane lead part, before the drums lock back in with the bass. Only Squire maintains the main riff throughout the section.

Interestingly, I heard the Yessongs version of PC on Deep Tracks (Sirius/XM) today around 11:15 am Central.

This is one song on Yessongs in which the use of Bill was a great choice. You can clearly hear the difference in approaches in Bill and Alan. Both are great though!

OK, after March spine surgery and a major PC crash which required me to buy a new PC and deal with Microsoft Vista, I finally finished tabbing out the Yessongs version of Perpetual Change. Here it is in all its 14 minutes of glory (guitar rests the last two minutes while Bruford rocks out his solo). There's some neat Howe riffs in here and I threw in a few of the studio version fills. I still need to clean up a few bars and will re-post later.
Enjoy learning to play it!
