On Herbie Hancocks 1984 album Sound System, there is a track called Metal Beat. Is it just my imagination, or do I hear snippets of Leave It in there?
Wikipidia doesn't give any clues. Does anybody know?

*listens*

At the beginning, the "I" and the vocalizations in the bridge, yeah, it definitely sounds like it could have been sampled from "Leave It" (albeit a bit tweaked). I'm listening to it online, though, so I have no idea if it was noted in the credits. I think that was before the big legal kerfluffle to go with the practice of contains elements from which came in the following decade.

It's a great track...even without that (possible) connection it is slammin!'

I also wonder if Jam & Lewis sampled this track for Janet Jackson's "Rhythm Nation" because the beat at the beginning is very similar to me for what they used (mixed with the Sly Stone sample).

It does sound like the "I" that starts the lyrics and the "do do"s that start around 20 seconds into Leave It.

Now I've got to see if I can find the little mini-CD I used to have from Herbie.
