That's it, If I were alone on a desert island and I could only chose between Relayer or Tormato.......I Lived to go to the Circus of Heaven! (don't think I returned)

both records are great
but i would not choose circus of heaven - hardly a yes classic
i would choose future times/ rejoice or silent wings of freedom

I love both these albums (apart from a couple off Tormato).
I would have to choose Relayer.
You should know why by now.
A little clue.....G.O.D.

Tormato was my first tour. It was the first album that I knew every note on. I redefined my air guitaring ( bass as well ) technique from that album.
Seeing Circus live was a treat.
Silent is musically one of the all time great YES songs.
I would rather download both albums onto my mp3 player. This is the 2000's!!!

I always thought that you were allowed to take 10 albums with you to a desert island. To a music lover, choosing only 1 album would be a means to suicide itself.

I guess the Professor has been busy upgrading the desert island all of these years.... an MP3 player???
A little clue.....G.O.D.
Ahem! A 22-minute epic is hardly a "little" clue Paul! LOL
We don't need to get into our disagreement over GOD here, it's been aired enough in the Tournament thread! LOL We all know I'm not a huge fan of Relayer, save To Be Over.
I would choose Tormato for the variety in the songs. I've always loved the opening and closing tracks of this album, plus the variety in between makes it a great listen!

If I had a choice, neither of those would be my desert island discs. My YES choices would be either THE YES ALBUM or GFTO.
Between the two on this thread I'd have to be TORMATO- more variety. I like the sound of RELAYER better but G.O.D. can be a bit hard to listen to after a while. If RELAYER was my only album, I suspect it would become a frisbee before long ;)

I love Tormato but I would have to choose Relayer if stuck on a deserted island.
Tormato has a great beat all throughout the album and has some very powerful vibes and sing alongs to it but Relayer is more intense and serious and strange which I think I would need to maintain my sanity.
The song Soon would have much more meaning to me as well if stuck on a deserted island. Listening to it every night would become a sacred ritual for me.

Wow! You got me listening again.
I think I would love to be stranded on a deserted island with Relayer.

No sorry not allowed, has to be Relayer or Tormato.
I would take Tormato. The production isn't great but it is such a weird and quirky album. I love it all.
Relayer, I accept as classic but I find it too fraught. Strange when I love Captain Beefheart "DOC at the Radar Station".

Because it's a Tormato thread, and the initial poster said in this hypothetical scenario you could choose only between those albums. Maybe you were kidnapped by pirates and you managed to grab the top two cds that were lying on the bedside table as they took you off to a desert island with it's little cd player with perfect sound. You discovered that the two cds were Tormato and Relayer, then one of the pirates shouted out "look he's got a CD! I saw him with a CD! No way are we going to allow that scum a CD on this Island. Give that to me right now, you horrid weasel that broke the heart of my beloved niece." And so you've got Relayer in your left hand and Tormato in your right you've got to make a decision which one to hand over because he doesn't realise you have two CD's and the one you hand over he will throw into the air and shot with his bluderbuss smashing it to smithereens. The other CD you'll keep out of sight and take with you to the desert Island.
That's why! Now which one?
I would have to go with "Relayer" :)
Toughie for me this.
Relayer is the better album, but I would consider Tormato if only for FT/R, Madrigal and Wings - and a skip button to avoid COH and Onward.
I'd rather take CTTE too.
I always thought that you were allowed to take 10 albums with you to a desert island.
It's not even that. It's actually eight pieces of music!

Interesting two to choose from. Both are favourites of mine.:headset:
I think I'd take Tormato, because there are more songs on it. No wait, that's stupid.

I would hope you had some candy-floss and toffee apples with you to keep you happy on that island.
I love tormoto too. Almost as much as tales. I find that madrigal in one of the most amazing yes songs ever. I have said before that if future times, madrigal and ariving ufo were meshed together, to me it would be one of the most amazing EPIC yes tunes EVER.
I have real tomatos growing in my tormoto garden at home and someday I will go to the place were you can see far away places with strange sounding names. When I went to see roger dean a few years ago I knew I was not far from this place.

Long live the tormoto fan!

If the truth were told, I wouldn't be on a desert island with only one album! I want yes to get back in the studio! between Relayer and Tormato you realize that you never go out of style or become outmoded..You in fact arrive!

Sounds like a good idea. Once my tomatos are ripe I'm gouing to try and be creative with my camara in the garden.
Hmmm... It would be fun to fill my bathtub up with tomatos and jump in. Maybe jump in with a suit on like the guy on the album. Although I dought I will have that meny extra tormotos, I mean tomatos to do this with. I only have 5 plants.
Well.. If I put a towl around my neck, maybe I can let some fellow yesfans smear tomatos across my face at the westbury pre- show. Maybe a fun photo op for some people here who would love to see me tomato faced. I would do this in honor of the tormoto album. For the record, sence I have snakes, I can hold a snake in honor of relayer aswell.

Who threw the tomato at the sleeve art? I first heard it was a frustrated Hipgnosis employee but I've read elsewhere that it was Rick. Either way, I think it's the worst album cover the band ever had (although it has strong competition with the three YesWest albums).

Tormato is a fine record. Release Release is top notch. I tried & tried to get into the "Gray" album but it was such a let down after Tales, it never grew on me after all these years.

Tormato is near the top of my list. The bass throughout the album is among the most creative and interesting of Mr. Squire's work in my opinion.

the record should be re mixed

tough choice, but I think i would take relayer. If only because the longer songs have more complexity to them.
i reserve the right to feel, in a few days, to write that I would pick Tormato because the shorter songs have more definiteness to them.

If you dont mind me saying... I really enjoy your posts!
Your current avatar is awesome. You look like as if you do live on an enchanted deserted island. I will still look forward to the tomatoes avatar tho..
I love Tormato! In no way would I feel slighted in having it be my only album. I guess I would choose Relayer first tho. I just would need the message of Relayer more than anything if stranded.
In other circumstances I may choose Tormato first. But I would need to hear the intensity of Relayer and the hope in the song "Soon" if I was to be stranded on a deserted island.
When I was young I had many pet snakes as well. Most not that large tho. In my famly we also had horses, a pony, lizards, a pet racoon, dogs, tropical birds, an Im probally forgetting something. lol.
