Hello all. This is the first album I'd heard from Yes, and it's my favorite so far. I love the songs on it, and wonder why they wern't played live. I think this album needs more recognitionfrom fans, and from I would like to hear some of the songs from the album played live if yes choosesThat's just my oppinion. What's your take on this thread?

I agree, the first Yes album is superb. It sounds a little dated I suppose but the songs and the playing still stand up well today. I think though that when The Yes Album came along the band had created a whole new unique sound which they then developed further and further through the 70's.
I'd love to hear a new reworking of Survival though - that song is so good and gave a hint of what was to come..

great album, just like Time and a Word. You can hear their influences very well, just like from the Beatles. And it also had a very jazzy-style. Which Yes lost in their later albums (maybe it was Bill who gave them that style?)

Bill and Steve are the two rooted in Jazz. Rick is classical. Tony was classic rock. Chris is rooted in partying or classical. Jon is high (god bless). Trevor was rooted in Aor success. Alan can play well.

I bought this album when it was first released and it introduced me to what has become my favorite band of all time. I listen to the CD now with the "extras"--I really like what Yes did with "Something's Coming". "Looking Around" is an incredibly uplifting "feel good" song that I enjoy now as much as I did almost forty years ago! "I See You" and "Every Little Thing" are the songs that introduced me to Yes and they remain amongst my favorites. How can the Yes version of "Every Little Thing" ever be improved upon?

The first album is okay to me, but I think it's appeal is colored in part because I know what they did later.

I must confess I have only just bought this album.
It was much better than I suspected. They had a unique sound, I love the blend of jazziness and 60's pop vocal. I love 60's pop. I was also surprised by Tony Kaye's playing, to me his playing on the Yes Album was unsympathetic and Rick was the ideal replacement. But on this first album his playing is spot on and fits perfectly.
This album is really sprightly, I feel silly for only just getting it.

It is only the opening act. Act 3 the Yes album is when the distinct Yes sound started to really develope.
I love Dear Father.
Survival has my favorit yes "is there gas in the car"

I love this album every track but particularly Looking Around and Survival I wish I'd seen these performed live. I think Looking Around would have been a much better encore song than Every Little Thing on the 2004 tour. It's so bouncy!

I love dear father, looking around and survival as well, but my favorite songs on this album to me are sweetness and yesterday and today. Crazy I know. Lol.
