Cannot see any comments about this anywhere else on this forum, so here goes.

Is anyone else dissapointed with the mix on the DTS and 5.1 tracks? In particular, there seems to be an equalisation problem between the front and rear speakers, which makes certain tracks sound horrendously out of sync. Prime example is The Fish, which seems to deteriorate into a horrendous cacophony, and sounds like 2 different songs being played at (not quite) the same time.

If I take the main speaker delay setting on my amp down to 0, (using a home cinema 6 speaker system) it seems to help, but you normally never have to change these settings at all.

The DTS and 5.1 tracks also seem a little too expansive, with the vocals not being quite centered enough, rather coming through the surround speakers, which makes them a little indistinct. They seem to echo around the surround speakers, which does not sound right.

I find if I select 5 channel stereo rather than one of the normaL 5.1 or DTS settings on my amp, it sounds much clearer, though then it is'nt true DTS.

OK, once you muck about with the sound, you can get it to sound the way you want it, but I have heard better sound mixes on other DVD A's.

I will say that it is otherwise a very nice package - the booklet is very good, the animated menus with the ship flying across the planet are very nice, and the bonus track America is very welcome.

Would be interested to know what others think.

This has been discussed in the thread something is wrong started by hotratslll.

General consesus after some adjustment is that it really is pretty good...at least I thought so.

Nope, no problems at all with the sound of the DVD-A in either both modes.
My soundsystem : amplifier : denon avc11-sr, player denon 2900, electrostatic speakers in the front from audiostatic ( es-100 ) with subwoofer PDSW of the same manufacturer and old JBL 40's in the back and middle ( 7.1 ).

I still hate my DVD-Audio of Fragile. The regular Rhino CD sounds super!

try the high resolution dvd-a tracks not the dts or 5.1 of course you need an actual dvd-a player to listen to the dvd-a tracks.

...for a 1970's recording, I think they did an amazing job on this DVD-A. I've only listened to the Hi-Rez surround track and think it sounds great!
Now if we could only get "The Yes Album" and Close To The Edge" the same way!!!!

Glad the concensus seems to be the Fragile dvd is ok...just ordered it so you had me worried there !!

I was extremely dissapointed with the Live in Philadelphia dvd and was concerned that others may have been as poor. Sorry some are dissatisfied with the sound quality; I sure empathise.

The DVD-As add a whole new dimension to the listening experience of both Fragile and Magnification. The surround mixes bring out sounds that are entirely new and enhance the performances that we all know so well. This may be quite unsettling to the purists who know the tracks from having heard them countless times in their original stereo mixes (see above posts). For me the surround mixes are like experiencing these tracks again for the first time. I listened to my Fragile DVD-A again today and can't say enough about it. The joyful noise that is the Fish is something to behold. The whole record is ... a revelation.
