Dear Jon,(should you 'ever' get to read this...?? ...well there is Always Hope)

You Say how you have to just 'get the courage to jump'...if you jump...We WILL Catch You!.....
Besides you know you have to do it at some point.....the sooner you do..the sooner you'll take the next leap (into the unknown).

By the way (I've tried asking this on your website but the 'ask ' option is always closed...(yes, they say it's all about timng!)...So
I'll ask it here......

Have you ever come across a copy of a book

'Lighningbolt' by Hyemeyohsts Storm - Native American Flower Soldier and Medicine Man....?

Have you ever thought of Orchestrating 'Olias' ????...I get the 'feeling' it would be 'Amazing'.

ps. I've been a Yes Music fan since 1969...'Diolch en Fawr' (Thank-You) for All The Joyous Music.

May You Walk In Beauty.

i think when jon says 'courage to just jump' he is referring to a series of books he read by a dude named carlos casteneda back in the early 70's. it is a curious set of books, cause they can still be found under philosophy, occult, religion, etc. it seems no one knows under what category these books fall. the first book was called "the teachings of don juan:a yaqui way of knowledge". these books changed my life/thinking more than anything i have ever read or seen or experienced [other than Yesmusic]. just another way to look at things, but it DID get very DEEP around the third book in the series-these were books ya couldnt read when you were falling asleep, no doubt. you really had to concentrate HARD to get the ideas. he is referring to the episode [i think it was the very last chapter in the first book] where casteneda's 'tutor' or 'mentor' told him he had to jump into an abyss. of course, he was afraid of what would happen, being a 'western thinking man'. the whole point I think, was to take the risk and have faith that all will be well. it took casteneda YEARS to recall what happened to him after he jumped. [yes, he lived] he is now, a true 'man of knowledge', even tho he 'left this world' a couple of years ago. jon read at least two of these books, because he did the album 'toltec' in reference to these books. when jon refers to 'the second attention' in a few of his songs, that phrase came from these books, as well. very interesting reading for the more 'cerebral' among us. they are very well written, and even if you dont 'get' the philosophy behind them, they are still hilarious and entertaining. get the first one and see if you get hooked like i did. just might change your life, or at the least, how you LIVE your life.

No it was the last chapter in the fourth book...and his name is Carlos CASTENADA

I think Don Juan might not agree with that.......as Castenada was not able to complete his training...also he had 3 compartments of energy and not the 4 that a 'Nagual' requires in order to make the 'Final Leap of Awareness' (Beyond Death as we 'Ordinary' humans might say!)

jon read at least two of these books, because he did the album 'toltec' in reference to these books.

I think you'll find ..if anything the 'Toltec' album is about the Toltec People/Way Of Life.....for indeeed they are Guardians and Keepers of this Beautiful Earth

I don't have the Cd with me at the moment, but on the inside I think it says something like
"Keepers of the Earth"

The terms 'Jump' and 'Leap' are often used as a metaphor, particularly in relation to going into the unknown - taking a 'major' step in one's life,..or as in this instance a Warriors Task...(A true Leap for Freedom).Having read all the Castenada Books and those related to such matter (cosmologies etc) numerous times through...and while I 'see' where you're coming from upbgirl...and understandably so....

I would suggest Jon in this instance is talking metaphorically....about taking that 'leap of faith' that All artists (musicians, Poets, writers, dancers, chorepgraphers ) have to make at some points/ stages in their (artistic & Personal) lives....... in terms of his 'solo' work ...Jon has 'toured' but in a limited sense.......also he is now in a whole different realm with regards live performance ...after all the Yes Gigs over the past 4 years...and the great span of 'solo' work he now has to consider for performance.....I remember when he had left Yes ( during the Buggles saga!) and toured with the New Life band...he mostly did songs from Song of Seven 1 or 2 tracks from Olias (I think) a classical work...But he also did a Yes Medley...for this he got a standing 'O'...and though appreciative of such a wondeful and 'deserved' reaction....was also 'visibly' ware that the biggest reaction was for Yes Music...not his solo work....

I think (and hope) that, that wouldn't be the case now...that was back in the 80's and (not unusually for those times in the Yes Story) Fans weren't privy to what exactly was happening (behind the scenes) at least not as privy as we are now...due to the 'Openess' that is now an obvious new part of Yes's belief in their fans and themselves as a band.

I'm well aware that Jon refers to Castenada directly in his solo work (Toltec)....The teachings and Knowledge that Castenada's Books concern...are based on the teachings and Ways (Life Teachings - the way a person/s and people live their Lives) of the ancient Toltecs (theirs is not just a system of beliefs , but a Practical 'way' application of everyday Actions / Doings (and not doings) that by their very doing/practise /application create, become and are this very noble peoples belief and so 'Way Of Life'....Castenada (providing all that was expressed in his books is 'genuine'...and there is now much evidence - especially regarding Tensegrity (Castenada's modernised and combined version of the Magical Passes tradition that Don Juan and his 'benefactor' Don Genaro taught him during his apprenticeship....these ;Magical Passes' are all concerned with Body Knowledge...an integral part of the 'Toltec Way') to suggest that all is not what we were lead to believe....

Which is someways is sad, and disappointing....but that is often the way when we (j=humans) ascend fellow humans to great heights..(as I once also did in castenada's case!)..

If you would like some 'Practical Pointers' to this work, I can recommend some books, and some Teachers..

sorry got to dash...my lunch break has ended!

Best Wishes

Kokopelli.

wow! i stand corrected!! i was trying to give insight without actually having the cd in front of me. interesting points you bring up, but what got me the most was the fact that i SPELLED HIS NAME WRONG! i am a speller, so i feel sheepish about that [self importance, here i come again!!lol]

i dont quite understand what you mean by 'all is not what we were led to believe'. are you referring to the tensegrity movement charging over $300 for a seminar? seemed strange and capitalistic to me, too, if that's what you are talking about. i was all gung ho to pay my $ and see what it was about, but i got a strange feeling about the $$ thing. [i am not cheap-just cautious] plus, the major factor to NOT joining is the fact that i have never been able to stop my internal dialogue yet! been trying for quite a few years-off and on. i am not saying his 'knowledge' has become my 'religion'-just that those books got my brain/psyche really working overtime. i feel it was perfect to understand yes and these ideas at about the same time in my life. i will try meditation for awhile-to see if i can ever shut the hell up..
i would LOVE some pointers when you have time-remember-i am one 'plugged up' human being at this point [but way ahead of the game in that i actually realize 'there is more to this world than we see with our eyes'] i want to learn more..thanx for setting me straight! we WILL talk again, surely!!

Jon is a true gentleman. A 'gentle man'.
I especially loved what he had to say to the 10 year old.
Jon Anderson: My Hero!

You are ever welcome here Jon, ever among friends.

Jon,

I would so love to see you on a solo tour. The thought of such a tour is simply exquisite. I saw you perform nearly solo in San Juan, back in 1993. The music was divine. Oh no, you don't need to sing Yes songs to have your fans adore you.

Take the jump Jon! We'll be there to catch you.

Be well and thank you for all you give to us.

P.S. Check out the new Mondavi Performing Arts Center in Davis, CA. It's design is acoustically perfect! In that auditorium, your voice would rise to the heavens on angels wings.
