Excellant! I really loved the acoustic stuff he did with McGlaughlin(sp) and DeLucia.

Technically, very impressive. You'd be hard-pressed to hear anyone cleaner or faster.

Cielo e' Terra and Soaring Through a Dream are my two favourites from Al. I met him briefly in Toronto before a gig.

Good call. He recorded those two (along with Tirami Su) for Manhattan Records. By the mid-eighties, he started to develop a bit of depth which was sorely lacking from his earlier speed-and-volume-for-their-own-sake approach.

I've got a nice snapshot of the two of us from his last 'World Sinfonia' line-up tour. He played acoustic the entire show, which is my preference. Great concert.

I saw Al a couple years ago acoustic no less with Stanley Clarke and Jean Luc Ponty (Rite of Strings). Fabulous musician.
I missed Return To Forever, AGAIN. :(

Having seen Al in person on the Romantic Warrior tour of 1976, I agree with you 101%. The only other guitarist I've heard come close to him is Allan Holdsworth. It would be incredible if those 2 were ever to do a duet album.

BTW, I had to miss RTF's reunion tour this summer, too....really tore me up. The only comfort I'm taking from that is knowing that they are making a DVD of the concert tour.

Agreed.......although Mr. McLaughlin is incredible too......Al has been one of my guitar heroes since he joined RTF

Sheer artistry--I just wish whoever filmed it could have caught the whole song!
Thanks for sharing this!

Thanks for the reminder. I did see him years ago and the warm-up act was UK.

This past summer I splurged for a VIP package for "Return To forever" in Atlanta and had the honor of meeting Al (and his co-horts), and he was nothing short of a gentleman (as were they all).

Incredible player.
