I interviewed Chris on Oct. 30, and I don't want to sound too harsh, but he sounded tired, didn't exhibit any of the enthusiasm or humor that I've seen/heard/read about in other interviews, and I found it puzzling.

Some of the answers were interesting, though, including one that I would like to turn into a poll question. When I asked Chris about how the Yes setlist doesn't include songs from The Ladder, KTA, etc., he responded that if Yes included those songs, the shows would be four hours long, and the fans wouldn't be interested in a four-hour Yesshow. Is that true? If a Yesshow had an expanded setlist and was four hours long, would you skip it because you'd get bored, or would you be as eager or more eager to go because they'd do songs that you have wanted to hear for years?

Peace, Love, and I May Say More About the Interview After Listening to the Tape, Which I'm Going to Do Now,

John C.

that being said, i would have to agree that if it was going to harm them physically in any way, or if it would be to the detriment of their personal well being, then i would take two hours and be quite happy. hell, at this point, i could hear close to the edge and go home.. [and i will be paying over $500 for this one show alone after traveling expenses]

a little bit of good, happy Yes is better than four hours of average, uninspired Yes, easily. we must keep them around for a while..

cant wait to hear about the interview..

Hmmm. 2 two hour sets with an intermission...I'd like that a lot.

4 hours is not too long.

8 hours is not too long.

12 hours, I might want a nap, but if they can go that long, I'd be there.;)

Btw, what did you interview him for, and where/when will we get a chance to read/hear it?

Yes could play for eternity and I'd be happy.

Seriously, I think it could be a money spinner too. Charge £70-£80 ($???), compared to the £35 I paid last year to see them in Birmingham. The hardcore fans would pay extra to see a longer set, and would love to hear something other than the 70's material.

Yes - charge more, play smaller arenas and play longer...

Or why not play one set at 7:00, have an hour break, then play the other set at 10:00, and you can either see one, the other, or both?

... I don't know if anyone will get to read it unless I find someone who is willing to publish it. I planned on running it in the Lake Minnetonka Navigator, the monthly, western-suburbs-of-Minneapolis newspaper that I do freelance writing for, but because of the death of Sen. Paul Wellstone (these aren't happy days in Minnesota) and other election coverage, the arts and entertainment section went bye-bye for the November issue, so it didn't make it in there. I've called the two daily papers, the Star Tribune and the St. Paul Pioneer Press, and offered it to them, but haven't heard back from either paper (I'm going to keep trying).

We could air the tape of it on "The Great Escape," the progressive-music radio show that I co-host once a month on a Friday on KFAI-FM (see www.kfai.org for details on how to listen to it live on Real Audio), but Chris' voice isn't very loud, so we'll have to find a way to boost his volume so that he can be heard. Our next show is from midnight to 2 a.m. on Nov. 23 (several hours before the concert in Mpls.), so I'd really like to broadcast the interview combined with some Yessongs to promote the concert.

In the meantime, I think that you can still read the interview that I did with Alan, online at www.citys-tone.com (it was in the August 2001 issue). City's Tone was a monthly arts and entertainment newspaper published by the same guy who owns the Navigator. It folded a few months ago, but I still do arts writing for it (except for, unfortunately, this month, when it mattered most).

I need to listen back to the tape again. I couldn't tell if Chris said that Yes WILL do a summer tour, or WON'T do a summer tour. I think he said won't, but I'm not positive about that. Unfortunately, I forgot to ask him about the possibility of Britney Spears covering "Your Move/ISAGP." He probably would have had something amusing to say about that. By the way, "Conspiracy II" should be out either by the end of this year or early next year.

Peace, Love, and I Wish That Chris Had the Same Enthusiasm When I Interviewed Him That He Does In Concert,

Curtailed their touring schedule to six week legs, with six off at home, some years ago. I can't believe Chris and company still run their tours the way they do. Talk about being rode hard and put away wet. They still tour like they are trying to establish themselves. They should take it slower and try to enjoy it more.

The first 2 hour set could be all the classic tunes, and then after about an hour's break to rest up, they can come back out for the second 2 hour set of the newer tunes! Oh yeah..It'd definitely be worth the price of the tickets alone!!

If they could do it, I say BRING IT ON!!!http://home.att.net/~dahni725/dancing.gif
