No Opportunity Necessary, No Experience Needed.
First piece of Yes Music that I heard, 32 years ago. The intro was stunning and remains so. I've still to hear Richie Havens' original version.

Thats a hard one, I like all the album so much. But I'd have to say "Astral Traveller" would be my favorite with "The Prophet" being a very close second. My dream is that someday this album is remixed without the orchestra. (they keep getting in the way.) That would make a good album even better.

I would go for The prophet although I haven't heard the entire album in about a decade. I have been listening mainly through the In a word box set. I was actually surprised at how good the songs from this period are. I got this record the day I bought CTTE, Relayer, Fragile, Drama and Going for the one and it sort of got lost in the shuffle and put in the rack. Actually I think that is also the day I got The Steve Howe album and the 6 wives. No wonder it didn't get much of a listen after that. This was around 1979 I believe.

It'll be like hearing it for the first time again. Sounds like The Prophet has the majority vote here. Can't wait now.
You'll be glad you bought this CD or I'll refund your money.

As much as I enjoy the staccato organ in The Prophet, my favourite is umm... Astral Traveller!

To me it's the greatest album among all the rest of YES: wonderful, amazing, fantastic pearl, real diamond. How can I differ one stone from another in a necklace? Although... to be honest, one brilliant is bigger, brighter and it's value is unquestionable and unreachable. It's - NONNEN!!!

Astral Traveller! I think it's Kaye's best moment and I love his counterpoint melodic play with Chris. Vintage Yes!

Great album.
Best song? "Everydays" wins hands down. Awesome drum/bass combo, incredible hammond organ sound, wonderful Peter Banks guitar, Jon limpid and lovely, great build-ups to awesome climaxes!
Life? Yes!

The Time And A Word upon Keys is also quite worthy...
Steve winds up with an absolutely breathtaking mandolin moment. And Rick is gorgeous throughout...
...Jon's voice glimmers and glistens...
Chris on that acoustic bass is quietly overpowering...
Alan delicately painting with the brushes...
(Jon ends up loving him so much at the end he "airs" out the final break for Alan one bar before)
Guess I love this song, too...

My feelings exactly.
That's maybe one of the more underrated early Yes tunes.
I sometimes speculate that perhaps they don't like the line "hate is the root of cancer/then" ... and if so, I'd like to throw this idea out there, that they instead sang "fate is the poof of pants oh/then". Nobody would even notice, really.
It'd be ridiculous, but I'd love it.

I really like Sweet Dreams alot too, esepcially the bonus track version that's about a minute longer and the versions on the Something's Coming BBC versions. The live versions from the 90125, ABWH and 2004 tours are great too.
If it were up to me, Sweet Dreams would be Yes' closing live song instead of Roundabout.

I agree, and what I love even more is the way the chorus is put through the "warble" setting in Tony's leslie (in the same way jack Bruce's vocal is done in the chorus of Cream's "As You Said). I always thought that was a supremely cool vocal effect.
