"ABWH could have been a very interesting band... if theyd've spent more than five seconds on it". Bill Bruford

I came across this quote and found myself agreeing with Bill. I loved the cd when it came out. I saw the tour and thought it was excellent. What a shame that Jons lyrics in the thread title (the opening line to the ABWH cd) were not fulfilled prophecy to the extent it could have been. Immediately after this CD came Union. The CD that the corperate execs brought about, and miss fired on many levels. Sadly ironic from my point of view. I don't want to dismiss all the music that followed ABWH by any means. I love much of it. But ABWH, as Bruford stated, could have led to something really awesome! Do you think this was a pivotal point in the life of Yes, and if so, why?

I would have enjoyed studio output from these players including Chris. Bill has the unique style but Alan is the drummer for Yes.

What an interesting thought! What if instead of merging the two lineups together, they remained as two seperate lineups and recorded all material under the name of Yes? What if? Of course, Jon and Chris would be required on both lineups! I think this was the thought of going back to Yes West for Talk. If only they had had a follow-up to that with ABWH + Squire = Yes....

I think it could have been a pivotal point, sure. ABWH had a lot of great music on it.

If Union had really been a "union", with a lot of collaboration between the two "bands" ... that could have been really spectacular!

ABWH + Squire = Yes....

Now that could have been a great next step.

Pivotal point? Absolutely, it was the 'halfway' mark of Yes' career.

ABWH was a fantastic line up

the record was fantastic and is as close to classic YES that you will get since the release of GFTO
