I wish this album could get the same treatment has the Let It Be -Naked cd from The Beatles. It would be nice to hear it without the orchestra smothering it. There is probably no money to be made doing so but i wonder if a band only mix could be made of a Time And A Word.

Yeah, I guess you're suggesting a Peter Banks favored version. He reportedly was far from happy about the addition of the orchestra and this helped to sew the seeds of his discontent with Yes (never heard orchestras with Flash). Recall that around this time (1970) of this recording, Orchestra 'salt and peppering' of rock music was 'in' due to the successful albums released in that era by the Beatles (Sgt Pepper), Moody Blues (Days of Future Past) and Deep Purple (with the Royal Philharmonic) - Time and a Word had some great songs but was never considered a big seller; Yes probably would have been dropped by their record company with similar sales in today's world. Luckily, they replaced Banks with Howe and scored big with the Yes Album. While a reworked Time and A Word would be interesting, I'd rather such a project start with either Union or Big Generator.

If Yes were to come out with an album close to the quality of Time and a Word today, I'd do cartwheels (no easy feat for me).
I love the orchestration.

I love the orchestration.

The orchestration really fattens and warms the overall sound. T&W without orchestra would be like pancakes without syrup.

Louis, I've always though of Magnification as a modern T&W, so if Yes made a Magnification II so to speak, I would celebrate.

I think this is a fascinating concept. I don't mind the orchestration either, but I think it WOULD be interesting to hear it without the orchestra.

Take off the orchestra and remix it with added material by Peter Banks, playing what he would have played if he hadn't had to make room for the strings.

Good Idear.... ;)
But it's not like there is the massive market for a Re-mixed TAAW like there was for Let It Be....Gotta keep that in mind....Still love to hear it though...

The orchestra never bothered me personally. I think it works a lot better on this release than on say The symphonic music of Yes disc that came out in the early 90's. That said it would be cool to hear it with a mellotron instead. It would sound different without the strings and that might be interesting but I am reluctant to say better. I personally don't mind the strings too much for the most part. I can understand how people think they get in the way though.
