It is widely stated that when comparing Rick Wakeman to Tony that Rick is "better" or "more technical" or "faster." But I remember when seeing them together on the "Union" tour that Rick indeed had his 5+ minute flamboyant solo; but that Tony really ripped some impressively fast runs during "Starship Trooper." Also I recently listened to "The Calling" again and it certainly seems like Tony really plays some fast fills.
Maybe it's a style difference. Perhaps Tony likes to be more understated in his playing. But it seems that Tony's skills are at least somewhat underrated.

I really love his solo at the end of Dear Father (the No. 2 Demo on the Yes expanded and remastered version)
But please, don't turn this thread into a Rick vs. Tony thread...you'll lose against me... ;) :lmao:
He was a top-notch Hammond player back in the day, but I wasn't too impressed with his Rabin-era work (although how much was him and how much was Rabin is debatable).

" I LOVE TO PLAY WITH MY ORGAN "
Words from Tony at the talk album release party. That party was so much fun! Chris kept spilling his drink on trevor, I think. Whoa..... What a night.
Tony also has some amazing spandex for his live shows!!! I can't imagine steve howe in spandex.

I was just saying that Tony can play pretty fast too.

Tony is a great musician, and those first 3 albums prove it. His work with Circa shows he still has it.
He is also great on the Flash album, and One Live Badger - Wind of Change has some super Hammond on it.

I think Tony is a great Hammond player. I wasn't particularly impressed by his live solo on Starship Trooper (attempted fast chromatic scales), compared to Rick's solo on either Yessongs or KTA1. For me, Tony's best work is on Astral Traveler and the live version of America from TWIL.

His playing on the 1968-70 part of the Chronological Journey is brilliant - and I've only seen the DVD... it must have been so great live!

Tony is great. I am delighted that he is playing with Circa and not in that Neil Young tribute band or running that restaurant for crying out loud!
I think if Steve, uh hum, I mean Yes, does not want Patrick Moraz back, I think Tony should be given the Yes gig.
