Has anybody ever put this version on CD? Or does anyone have a list of how it’s broken down? Is it a single LP? Is it re-mixed at all, to give it more of an FM radio punch? We’re the “singles” given names? Is there any breakdown info that would make it possible for me to recreate with the CD tracks, in Audacity?

I’m very eager to hear how Atlantic tried to get this LP out and on the radio!

I have a copy of this.

Two things that are most interesting about it:

1) The sides are "banded", yes...but there are no fades or anything. Each movement plays through uninterrupted. I guess the "bands" were just suggestions for the jocks re: where they wanted to fade in and out.

2) This is the best sounding US vinyl of TFTO, bar none! Apparently this "banded" US version (which is a white label promo, btw) was cut from the UK tapes. Every other US edition of the LP I have ever heard pales in comparison to this disc, and must have been made from a copy tape. (I'd gather that the UK discs sound fabulous!!)

So...bottom line is....you need this pressing if you are a vinyl nut. (or a good UK pressing).

First, you guys rock. I love the quick response!

Secondly, thanks for the thorough info--but it's a shame I never put it together that the "banding" was only a piece of paper!

How would I know if I was looking at a white label banded promo copy? Are the white labels blank or do they have information about the album on them?

The ironic thing about this is, my first copy of TFTO was a banded "promotional DJ copy" that I.......um......"adopted" from my campus radio station. To answer your question, faceintheplace, there should be a large white sticker at the bottom of the front of the album cover saying "Promotional DJ Copy" and should have 3 to 4 "suggested tracks" on it. I wish now I'd held onto that copy of TFTO, because it now appears to be worth some $$.....?

(My "adoption" of the album--which happened the first day it arrived at our station--was to hold onto it not just for purely selfish reasons [cheesy grin], but to also keep the "less-evolved" DJ's at the station from fingerprinting and scratching the hell out of it.)

My copy of Tales is also a white label DJ copy that I picked up at my local used record store. It's also banded for airplay as well. The "white label" is also included on the actual lp label with info of the album and the individual movements. The songs are then broken down into section on both the running time info and the actual groove of the records. So this is what you have:

'Revealing' - Tracks 1- 5: 1) 3:30 2) 6:17 3) 3:21 4) 4:30 5) 2:55

'Remembering' - Tracks 1 - 5: 1) 4:40 2) 3:05 3) 8:16 4)1:47 5) 3:304

'The Ancient' - Tracks 1 - 4: 1) 3:16 2) 9:16 3) 2:13 4) 3:56

'Ritual' - Tracks 1 -4: 1) 5:25 2) 6:42 3) 5:20 4) 4:19

Now the difference between the version that CybrKhatru's describing and mine is that the each sections fades out after their alotted time and then the next section fades in where the previous left off.

OK. LOL I understand.

I think what made it plausible is that there ARE LPs of "Relayer" which are not only banded for airplay but have fade outs/fade ins. I used to own one....and it split Gates into three parts, Sound Chaser into two.

I may still have a copy of this version of Relayer boxed up in the garage. Until the new "Soon (New Edit)" it was the best edit of Soon.

Do I need to put it on Craig's List or eBay?

Oh! You have one of those? cool. :D

I don't know what they are worth..but eBaying might be an option. They are kinda rare, after all.
