I love that video. In fact I have the Making of Leave It on video and I have all 18 versions of the video, including one version that only shows Trevor Rabin's feet.

I think the Leave It video we all know was #19.

MTV did a World Premiere for each version. Every video was a little different. There was one version showing just Jon Anderson, one of them all with their backs to the camera, one where Tony Kaye was wearing a red tie, one where they were spinning around, one where they were marching, one was acapella, etc.

When you'd see the Leave It video, there would be a number beside it (#4,#12 etc.) You'd know what version you were watching.

Finally they just showed the one we all know, which is also refered to as "The Best Of" the Leave It videos.

You know, considering the technology that was available in the early 80's this was no trivial task. (And probably cost a mint) Just how did they make it ? Five years later they could have done this on a Commodore Amiga 2000/5000, but here you had to have something of the calibre that TV stations used for rotating logos.

So I say this is an excellent video for its day, but certainly not bad at all now. Its still quite creative.

Yes this Kate Bush video is poor, but she is great!
I believe David Gilmour discovered her and they are long time friends.
During this time Jon Anderson said Kate was one of his favorites!
But like the Yes video.....take it or Leave It........

Actually Amy I now agree with you; I was very ignorant for saying that its the worst video ever without giving thought to the time it was made!

I was more intrigued with the other Yes videos on youtube I'd never seen before- Moraz "destroying" CTTE, the House of YES live vid, and the"THEN" video where Tony, Bill, Chris, Jon and Steve seem to be freezing their arses off at the coast in a 50 knot gale :lmao:

OK, now you've done it! I'm not taking this stuff anymore, fifty wet noodle whippings for you! ;) :ele:

Hyuckhyuck! God bless the eighties. They were, well, more interesting than the twothousands anyway. It's a silly vid, but what wasn't a silly vid back then?

Anyway, fun thread, I'd never seen that one before actually... Love the song, the video? 'Internet killed the video star!' ;)

Nothing's wrong with House Of YES...
We get to see Billy Sherwood playing with the band, his wonderful guitar solo in Owner, it was a fine tour, and a good document of The Ladder period.

I LOVE it! ...so there ya go.

I completely agree. And you'll hardly ever find an official Yes DVD with that good balance of tightness of the band (bye-bye, Tsongas) and production values (bye-bye, Montreux).

Godley & Creme directed that video.

Yes, it was a product of their combined madness. :winknudge

On the MTV (April 1984) special called The Making Of Leave It, they talk about how they came up with the ideas for the video/videos.

One of these days I'm going to get a VHS to DVD converter, and then I'm going to upload my plethora of Yes stuff to YouTube.

Who said anything about it being wrong. When you link to the LEAVE IT video, all these other ones pop up. I wasnt even aware there was any videos of HOY or the others I mentioned. I know there is video of the UNION tour but I've never seen a listing of a DVD of it.
And BTW, what's wrong with the MONTREUX DVD?

The 80's were a terrible time for mankind and this visual pestilence can be seen in almost every music video...there were far too many shudder moments and not enough quality shutter ones...

I haven't clicked on the link yet--and I'm assuming this isn't an opinion poll--but for my money, the worst video I ever saw (and I'm tellin' ya, this one will make you cringe) was for Billy Joel's "Keepin' the Faith." GOD AWFUL. I gagged the first time I saw it and I seriously have yet to see anything more ridiculous.

Wish I could scrub out my brain right now.

The worst videos were the ones that sent people into epileptic seizures, like Wang Chung and Cheap Trick which obviously were made by the same people.

Those were just plain uncomfortable and hurt just to watch

Why the hell can't people tell it's hard to watch. Using the latest technology is one thing but, jeez. Same with that abrasive sound/vocoder type thing that Cher used in "Believe." A bunch of other songs used that and to me it sounds awful.

Actually, I guess it's this thing with a vocoder:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Auto-Tune

Read about halfway down. To me, it sounds like someone is audibly and digitally throwing up.

again:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cher_effect

another piece of crap use of it:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/One_More_Time_%28Daft_Punk_song%29

I like the use of a vocoder in some uses like Asia and Styx, where it was produced to make a nice, clean textural whoosh to carry on vocals, but that particualar use just irritates.

Someday the 80's will actually be viewed as one of the best times in America . The economy was OK. Communism was failing. The US wasn't at war. It was sorta like the late 50's/early 60's.

...at least the early to mid 80's. I didn't have a care in the world. AIDS and Herpes weren't really big yet. Terrorism hadn't really hit home yet, although the guitarist in my current bands wife's father died in the Beirut Marines barracks bombing.

Culturally deprived?, yes. Dangerous? Well, we were blissfully ignorant of what lie just ahead.

I was 16-21 in those years and man, oh man did I enjoy every minute. Between high school, college and legal drinking, I could not have asked for anything more.

Hell, I probably went 10-15 years thinking the US would never be involved in a real war ever again.

The poor kids of today only know America as constantly at war, basical engaged in some type of warfare from 1990-present. That coupled with all the crap that gets thrown their way via internet bullying, terrorism, the economy, and worse, Paris Hilton.

What a paranoid, jealous, violent, mean society we now live in. The psychological and sometimes, physical rape of an entire generation.

Sorry guys.

It was my generation and the one before that spewed out this venom in it's marketing and overall philosophy of "mine first" and "Kindness is weakness" as we took our jobs in newsrooms, ad agencies, political arenas, financial institutions, sports marketing and the music and video biz.

You guys got smoked out early in your lives.

At least you get to see this stuff in HD!

Shame on us.

...I'd take the 80's every day of the week comparably.

That patronizing, cutesy video made Uptown Girl look like Citizen Kane.

Keepin' the Faith was disgustingly gross, and I dare say it was abusive in it's ability to take advantage of the weak and culturally malformed.

...oh yeah, and it sucked!

Yes at least has the distintion of having the best Video ever:

Owner of a lonley Heart was always my favorite video regarless that it was Yes. I was a little Kid when this came out and every time the animals came in like the Hawk in the bed or the guy washing his face with the bugs,
It was just crazy to me.
