I finally was able to see this film over the weekend on dvd. Originally wanting to see it in the theater, for some reason or another I never did. Now I’m kicking myself because I didn’t. This is definitely a film that should be viewed on the big screen. It’s got everything but the kitchen sink thrown in it – a religious cult, politics, sex, gorgeous cinematography, cool digital effects (love that “beast”) and plenty of kung fu fightin’ (!) While not the most thought-provoking film ever to be released, it’s nonetheless very entertaining and kept me engaged for it’s 2 hours and twenty minutes length.
