With all the DVDs and even VHS releases of the group in recent years, I haven't looked at 9012live in a long time so I played it last night after the House of Blues DVD. Of course I've also been watching KTA, Yessymphonic and even the Philadelphia footage a lot.
I couldn't believe how different the 80s lineup was from the 70s and late 90s lineups. Much more so than I had realised despite having played 9012live to death in the 80s and listening to the 80s albums regularly.
Quite frankly, I found the 80s performance had a lot of glitz without substance. Not that they were bad - just not as good. Watching these various Yes incarnations is very interesting.

I like this video alot. Of course the music was more direct and rock oriented but it suited the time. I got a few bootlegs from that tour and they seemed to be avoiding the older stuff. More than likely due to Rabin being more interested in his own music. On 1 bootleg that was an entire show, they only did And you and I, Starship trooper, All good people and Soon. All the rest was new.
The keyboards were not featured as much and I think this trimming down made it sound emptier than when Rick or Patric was in the band. It is really just guitar bass and drums with a bit of keyboard. Those types of arrangements will never have as much depth due to the timbre of the instruments involved. A lot of high end!!
They played great though and Trevor blew my mind.
I am unaware of any DVD's featuring the Talk material.

There is *some* Talk material on the 'Talk' interactive cd rom. Also, there were a couple of Talk shows pro-shot in South America (Chile and Brazil). FY lists quite a few aud shot videos from the Nth American leg and , of course, with that whole concertsonics broadcast thingamyjig the Talk tour represents the first time that Yes actively encouraged people to tape the shows. ( with mixed results, admitedly)

You could try ebay. A Brasilian version of the 9012live show was recently "released" although there are indications that it is simply a video transfer and not a remastering.
rea live Talk show: try one of the Yes trading groups via Yahoo.

As it turns out, it was Rabin who wanted to play some of the more obscure Yes music, but he was thwarted by Anderson & Squire, who thought it wouldn't be popular enough. He did manage to convince them to play one obscure song though [Sweet Dreams], but that was only at one show, I think. Ah well. Would have been interesting if he could have persuaded them to do some of their more obscure music.

I've got the Original VHS Tape of 90125Live and just recently picked up the Brazilian DVD on Ebay. They come up all the time usualy starting at about US$9.99 plus post.
Just bid low on them and don't get into a bidding war. I got mine for $9.99 cos I was the only bidder at the time. I think it was about the 7th one I had put a bid on though.
There will always be another one coming along, bit like a council bus lol.
Quality wise its just a straight Video transfer and the VHS in my opinion is actualy better quality, vision wise, than the DVD. There are lots of blotchy bits in dark parts of the show on DVD that I havn't seen on the VHS tape.
The sound is slightly improved as it has been mastered in Dolby Digital 5.1. But it isn't that big an improvement believe me.
The cover art is different from the VHS and features a pic from the Big Generator Tour.
According to what I heard elsewhere, Yes now have the rights to this show and were planning to release it officially on DVD with extra footage and other bonus material so it might be worth waiting a little while to see what they offer us long suffering fans and collectors this time!
As for the Talk Tour stuff, I have got a copy of the Santiago show which is a pro TV shot. This does deserve to get on a DVD sometime. Its a great concert with some fantastic footage.
The start to Endless Dream (Silent Spring) where Chris and Billy both get out Bass guitars and thunder away Right Stage while Trevor wails away Left Stage with Alan laying down the percussion track from hell is absolutely f**king mindblowing!
Billy was used as a Jack of all Trades sideman on this tour and you will see him playing Guitar, Bass, keyboards and percussion plus vocals during this show.

Hi Dale
I got it from a place in the US called CD Cellar ( http://home.earthlink.net/~cdcellar/ ) they sell all sorts of bootleg stuff. I think I paid about US$20 for it. The tape is in NTSC and my Sony VHS machine will play it no problems.
I did manage to make a copy of it once but you have to get two VHS machines together that can handle NTSC to make the copy.
Unfortunatly I only have the one VHS player that can handle NTSC otherwise I would make you a copy. Although let me see what I can do, I might be able to arrange something, no promises mind.
I must get it out and play it again just to see the Bass Duet. Chris on his 8 String Tobias? Bass and Billy uses Chris's extended neck one with the extra frets on the deep end of the bass. They go for it like they are playing lead guitar in Van Halen or something lol.

Great info'.
I guess there is a lot of this type of thing. I see that people often talk of the Union tour on DVD and so on.
I guess I'll eventually find it all.

Ity does seem to be very 80's now and a bit dated, but the music is great and the quality is great ( I got my copy in 85).
I only wish they's toned doen the video a bit. It was a good idea but they went overboard with it.
By the way, the guy who directed it went on to become very famous. I think his name is Steven Solderburg (is that right?).

The cd cellar link is up for sale. :( No luck for me today eh. BTW, Steven Soderbergh went on to fame & fortune. Some of the movies he has directed are Sex, Lies & Videotape, Traffic, Oceans Eleven & Erin Brockovich.

There is an internet vendor (http://www.artist-shop.com/index.htm#jukebox) the artist shop who are taking pre-orders for the 90125 DVD, read their latest newsletter.
And better news yet, they have finally released the 2-DVD "The way we walk - Genesis" domestically, you can grab your copy at any Best Buy or internet vendor as well. This is a true gem, with improved sound quality from the VHS release, it was worth the wait. Hopefully we'll get the YES' Queen's Park DVD some day soon!
Peace and Love.

Yeah, that one - '75 QPR...I meant to be released domestically in the USA, I am aware there has been an expensive japanese edition out for some time and most likely one from Australia but those prices are prohibitive for my budget. But thanks for the feedback.
