Anyone familiar with this set? I have Sunday At The Village Vanguard on CD, and Waltz For Debby on cassette. Anyone have any thoughts on this set. Is the stuff I don't have "essential"? I really hate having to re-buy stuff like this, but I'm wondering about this one.
I am unfamiliar with the set. Is there more to it than Sunday and Waltz?
Matt?

I think it has everything they recorded from the VV. Only a few extra tracks I think, plus spoken introductions and onstage banter. They did five sets, so a few tunes are repeated.
As of right now, all I have from these sessions is a 2LP set on Riverside/Milestone which has the two original albums plus "Porgy" as a bonus cut.

I have this set Chris. It is everything they played on June 25, 1961. Two afternoon and three evening sets on three CDs remasted "utilizing 20-bit K2 Super Coding System" whatever that is, plus an extensive booklet. There are 2 or 3 takes of many of the songs. There is some backround noise from the club but the sound quality is very good in general. Personally I enjoy the whole thing but if you don't like getting several takes of the same song it's not for you.

Sounds like something I would love. All I know is that 1961 was one heckuva year for Bill Evans. The trio delivered their most recognizable works all during this one year. You have these Village Vanguard sets here that I'm completely unfamiliar with, plus the threee studio albums Waltz For Debby, Know What I Mean? and Explorations. Three of his finest works all recorded within the same year. This scenario reminds me of the year 1964 for Wayne Shorter, where he too recorded and released his three most distinguished collections.
Now that I'm looking, it seems that '62 and '63 were also pretty busy. But, I don't know any of these records. Can anyone vouch for any these titles: Moon Beams, How My Heart Sings, Interplay, Conversations With Myself, and Time Remembered.
