On the new DVD I find Bill a bit snobby and standoff-ish.
He's extremely talented but he's also a very lucky human being. He acts like his fame was all so matter of fact and in someway predestined. He states that he is somewhat embarrassed by the bands earlier attempts at songwriting but those songs ultimately led to his success and fame. I dunno, there's something about his snooty retorts that just burns my biscuit...

Yes, I have worked with many drummers, too...but the only truly egotistical band members I've worked with have been lead singers, and they had absolutely no reason to be snotty. :winknudge
I can excuse Bill his arrogance. He's worth his weight in gold, that one. :lmao:

I know it just rubs me the wrong way when someone who has contributed less than others with the songwriting bashes the writing that made them famous!
Anyone can learn how to drum (Yes he's the best blah, blah, blah) but very few really want to hear just a drummer flailing about. Thats why concession stands and bathrooms are filled during drum solos at shows...

All the same? Maybe its you. Not treating them like equals in the scheme of things...You get what you give dude. Most the time. I assure you.
IMEO it takes quite a lot more to make a drummer than it does a guitar player.
Dude....What you just said really is offensive to me...

maybe he can take a cue from Frank Zappa and put out a collection called Shut Up And Play Yer Drums... and then follow that advice!
Were they doing "Wipeout" or In-a-Gadda-Da-Vida?
I think you're saying that's when everyone takes a break,
during the drum solos?
I thought that usually happens when they announce
"we'd like to do a new song now.."

I'll forgive him anything he says. Anything.
What I won't forgive is if he charges me $50 to see Earthworks, and then he gets on stage wasted and unpracticed. And I doubt that that's ever gonna happen!

I've never played guitar, but playing drums well is a hell of a lot harder than it looks, that's for sure...

that is true! yet... if/when Yes introduces new material on the stage this tour, most of us will be so fired up we'll stay at our seats - though not necessarily in them!

He always shows up dressed to kill and as sharp as the barbers shears. He speaks to the croud like their human beings and then he always proves that he's the one who winds up the titans before putting them down to watch them go....
Who else has such a beautiful resime?

Take it easy Pat O Brien...
I wasn't talking to you specifically. I was making a statement based on my experiences.
I was also talking about the contribution to songwriting aspect of stardom...

Ah, I was about to edit my post to give you the benefit of the doubt....I have seen plenty of shoddy drummers locally......
Perhaps you'd like to try recording with me sometime? I'd love to treat you to more than you're currently use to.

PLEASE, I didnt mean for this to escalate into anythng more than friendly banter. And as far as the Pat O Brien thing goes my friends and I do that all the time ( Celebrity look-alikes ) no offense intended. I'm either Ernest Borgnine or Bears QB Jim McMahon so I can take it as well as dish it. :)
All I meant was that Bill's comments (on the DVD) about how shabbily the songwriting was done early on bugged me as he wasnt contributing to the actual verse/chorus development.
Peace!
