LOL! This is the age old classic debate on this site. There is a lot of Yes West that I absolutely love, but I'm a classic Yes girl at heart.

is it called yes west? My Bad. Well I view that yes the same way I view early beatles, still better than most bands stuff, but not quite as good as some of their own stuff. My friend who got me into yes said they should have called themselves cinema like they were going too, he views it as a different band, which in a sense i guess it was.

I lean Trooper
...but I'm also a little YesWest (Generator) and I'm also a Panther (love Drama)
I like most Yes but I would't call myself a YesWhole

I actually had a complete YesWest collection before I was a full-blown Trooper, but I now love them both. As far as "other" lineups, I am a Panther and a Banks era fan, but no thanks on the Sherwoodian stuff.

Don't hurt me, I'm just being honest. :aaa[1]:

I'm a real Trooper, I like the Yes West stuff...but isn't as genius as the real prog stuff.
I love the classical line-up with Jon, Steve, Alan, Chris and Rick. How do you call a Wakeman fan? A lady of the Lake? Or a grumpy young girl?

I seem to be in Jim's camp, "YesWhole". You like what you like. Your here and I enjoy your post, Andrea.

I prefer Trooper stuff but really, I'm a Yeswhole. The album I've had the most trouble coming to like is Drama. [surprise LOL]

Nina: I think a Wakey fan is just a Wakey fan, no fancy words needed. How about a Wakefan?

Thank you. I know what I like and I like what I know (yeah, it's not a Yessong, but it works). :winknudge

I don't think it's hard to be a Trooper or a Generator (if that's what you mean by "heard"). It's not hard to be a fan of any music, you just have to like it. And it's not hard to be a detractor of any music, you just have to hate it. Liking and hating anything shouldn't be hard work. Shouldn't be work at all. You just feel it, or you don't. If you don't like it, and want to give it another try, then go ahead. But to actually like or dislike something will come naturally and effortlessly.

I would have to say a Trooper fan although I live on the west coast so I used to think I was a Yes West fan until I figured out what that meant. :-o

My reasoning being:

My favorite two keyboardists are No. 1 Wakeman! No. 2 Moraz. No other keyboardist in this band has sent me. I have never felt they were as original and creative. JMHO. So, My favorite era and songs almost always include one of them. I love ABWH, hmmm, what does the W stand for?

I am a keyboardist, maybe that explains my keyboard-based decision.

The other night my 18 year old (who is a gifted guitarist himself) was telling me how much better Rabin was than Howe. I disagreed, of course. I think they're both great.

I thought the fanship of any lineup with Steve Howe (with the possible exception of Drama Panthers) made you a Trooper, regardless of keyboardist. But all the titles are arbitrary really. You like what you like, and for me it's nearly all.

I completely missed out on YesWest. By the 80's most of my musical interest had turned away from 'Rock', mainstream and most western music in general. I didn't realize YES were still a band until I heard 'Owner' and that still wasn't enough to draw me back into the fold. Obviously being a classic addict I was not a huge fan of YW

There's still so much of Yes' music to hear. Thus far, I would say that I am definitely a Trooper and not a Generator. "Owner of a Lonely Heart" is a pleasant enough Adult Orientated Rock song but it doesn't have the lyrical and musical magic of a song like "Close to the Edge".
