1.) Perpetual Change. This song describes one of the fundamental forces of nature, something which we all have to deal with.

2.) I've Seen All Good People. This is a landmark song in my mind, melding rock instrumentation with vocal harmonies, acoustic musicianship, and striking lyrics.

3.) Starship Trooper. I love the sound of this song, the lofty, soaring lyrics contrasting with the earthy bass line.

4.) (The) Clap. My favorite demo tune for Steve Howe's guitar playing, when one person sounds like several. According to one friend of mine, it is merely a bunch of practice riffs spliced together, but, irregardless, it has a catchy rhythm, and a very upbeat feeling.

5.) Yours Is No Disgrace. A top notch song in my book, which is only receiving such a low rating because the other songs are so outstanding. I consider this album in toto to be amazing, considering the quality of the recording, the brilliant mastering, the durability of the music. I think that this album set the standard for production in the music industry for years, at least until 'Dark Side Of The Moon'.

6.) A Venture. Anti-war protest song? Personal vendetta? One of the few, (if only,) Yes songs I routinely skip.

I know I've seen all good people was the most commercially played so I hesitate to make it #1, but I still think it is one of those "special" songs—almost perfect.

Song rank--Starship Trooper, followed by Perpetual Change

Performance rank--YIND, hands down!!! One of the more amazing Yes studio achievements IMO.

JL, in my opinion the Yessongs version is even better. YIND is one of several Yessongs I never get tired of hearing - even after probably thousands of hearings in my case.

I disagree. While I think every other TYA song is drastically improved live, YIND as presented on TYA is absolute perfection.

This is one I hardly listen to, as I much prefer the Yessongs versions with Wakeman.

PERPETUAL CHANGE
STARSHIP TROOPER
CLAP
A VENTURE
I'VE SEEN ALL GOOD PEOPLE

Starship Trooper is my favourite on Yessongs though.

Illusion, your avatar cracks me up...

OK here's my ranking:
STARSHIP TROOPER
YOURS IS NO DISGRACE
I'VE SEEN ALL GOOD PEOPLE
PERPETUAL CHANGE
CLAP
A VENTURE

The first three I'm most likely to sing along with in the car and speed while doing so (oops!). Odd way to determine a ranking, but it works. I put in a disclaimer here that they are all good songs.

I've noticed Perpetual Change seems to be the underrated gem that is actually really well liked and timely for this day and age. Depending on my mood (or more to the point if I get ISAGPed and YINDed out Perperetual Change would swap for a number 2 or 3 position)

I share some of your points of view... both... though it may sound crazy...

I, as a musician, I prefer live performances due to the energy that generates on stage with communication with the audience... but is right what JL says in my interpretation of his words... YIND has the best mix of all the songs that includes TYA... unfortunately "Starship Trooper" and "Perpetual Change" didn't run with the same luck, but don't forget we're talking abaut a 1971 recording... should Yes make a new YIND studio version today it would be simply EXPLOSIVE!!!... don't you think? ;)

My song ranking is:

1 - Yours is no disgrace
2 - Perpetual Change (better in Yessongs)
3 - I've seen all good people (better in 9012 Tour)
4 - Starship Trooper (better in 9012 Tour)
5 - Clap
6 - A Venture

Love the whole album, when I was a IT project leader, on deployment weekends I would get in my truck and crank up Yours is No Disgrace, put me in the mood to push 25 contractors to their limits : )

Your Move was my wedding's processional... my wife was in an anteroom and the doors were flung open at the third chorus' "for the Queen to use" and she timed her 20 steps perfectly, arriving at my side right at "Is Captured!"

All Good People (the second half, not the Suite's title) was what was played after the ceremony as my wife and I left the room : )

My son first heard Yes (or more specifically Chris Squire) in my wife's womb. We went to see Yes when she was about 7 months along and the opener was YIND. The sonic bass wave coming from the towers of speakers about 30 feet away rumbled through my chest, and my wife grabbed my hand and put in on her belly to feel him reacting to the sounds. We named my now 17 year old son Anderson "in _his_ angelic honor".

1. Yours Is No Disgrace
2. Perpetual Change
3. Starship Trooper
4. I've Seen All Good People suite (#4 only because of exposure, 1-3 are, IMHO, more "durable" after years of repeated listening)
5. A Venture
6. The Clap (again, only because of overexposure, but a gleaming example of Steve's talents he greatly expands with interwoven parts of Clap, The Ancients, MFAD, etc in live performance solos)

Starship Trooper (for my money the best overall track and performance on the Yes Album)
Yours is No Disgrace (great on the album and really came alive at live shows)
Perpetual Chance (again, it's good on the album but I really like the live versions most)
A Venture (really underrated, a great Tony Kaye showcase and cool bass part from Chris too. the lyrics sound Jethro Tull influenced.)
Clap (gotta say I prefer the Rhino bonus track version with the proto version of Mood for a Day in the middle of it.)
Your Move/ All Good People (the studio version of Your Move is quite nice but overall I prefer this one live, Classic Yes has my favorite version.)

I echo the feeling that every song on this set is a winner.
Starship Trooper - A classic Yes Concert closer because of the jam at the end. The lighting engineers always do a great job. Yours Is No Disgrace - A classic Yes Concert opener because the instrumental breaks re-introduce us to the talents of the individual artists' mastery of their instruments. Perpetual Change - Great headphones song A Venture - classic lyrics, a nice bridge from AGP to YinD All Good People - I also like the live version on Classic Yes but the original is great classic progressive rock Clap - Still a great guitar workout - never is a note out of place.

This ranking is fairly painful; there are no mediocre or "worst" tracks on TYA. I.E.: even though I've ranked "A Venture" 6/6, I'm quite fond of the track, and consider it quite excellent.
