As a follower of SH since the Fragile days, the lasting image in me mind is of the coolest guitarist ever with long flowing yellow hair caused by the ever present flooding yellow spotlights that always seemed to highlight him on stage while he was ripping up the neck of a telecaster or his classical.
The dude always had that strained face with his toothy top front bite going like mad, which always give me the presumption of "hay out there! it's taking me all, just to play this stuff live that I've gone and written." Maybe it was the energy of youth or the sharp edge of the present at that moment in it's time for Yes. That's just what I see in me minds eye from then.
Now fast forward to the Yes 2002 tour, the epic lineup is back, I have to go see them this time around, relive the memories. It was just as I could of hoped for, less the youth, big hair, cape outfits, and Dean style stage props. Total Glory!
The simple but giant translucent classic Yes logo partnered by silver screens reflecting mystical light effects, backing up the magical music of Yes just about right. As we hear "the songs we know so well" I think of the other guitarist that have now passed on, Sor, Segovia, my tears begin flowing strong, for I now know I am standing before the current Master. I'm reflecting on the image of the Master, Steve Howe bowing the acknowledged accolade from the acolytes.
The reflection is of a senior seasoned veteran of his art, the years unmasked, the pronounced but strong blunted thin hands in command of his craft, still wild but thin receding hair spewing from a globe head, large deep eyes gleaming through "I don't care how I look I just want to see man!" visionware, sunken and long in the tooth facial features, wow, yes there it is, that toothy enamel smile. Snapshot!
I driving home in the quiet aftermass, it strikes me, the image, the snapshot. Yea that's it, he looks Asian, like an elder Asian master. Could that be, well he was in the band Asia, that would be interesting. So I wondering. Is Steve Howe half Asian? Does he have an Asian bloodline? It would just explain his appearance.
