I've seen the YESSTORY 2 cd set around, and saw that it was merely a highlights of the YESYEARS box set type release. Too bad it doesn't have all the "odd tracks" on it. That would have been a good way to get these tracks without buying the 4 CD box set. I am glad I have the box set though. I was curious if anyone is fond of YESSTORY here. No one has ever posted in the YESSTORY forum until this very post! I guess that must tell me something....I guess I answered my own question.

I don't own it but I've seen it. Its a solid best of compilation, but wasn't promoted enough.

Yes I have got Yesstory .. in fact I've got 2 copies of it. That's because there are 2 different versions of it with different tracks on them.

There is a European version cat no 7564-91747-2
Tracks it has that are not on the US release are...
Does it Really Happen
Make It Easy
Changes (live)

There is also a US version cat no 792202-2
Tracks it has that are not on the European release are...
Somethings Coming
Every Little Thing
Yours is No Disgrace
Long Distance Runaround
America (edit)

Tracks common to both releases are
Survival
No Opportunity etc
Time and a Word
Starship Trooper
I've Seen All Good People
Roundabout
Heart of the Sunrise
Close to The Edge
Ritual
Wonderous Stories
Going For The One
Don't Kill The Whale
Owner
Rhythm of Love

I wonder how many Yesfans knew that?

Mike

YesStory was the first Yes album I ever bought. I sold it on half.com after I got all the original studio albums, since I didn't really need it anymore, but I suppose it holds a special place in my heart as being the first Yes thing I owned. (although The Ladder was the first Yes music I ever heard besides OOALH and ISAGP)

I didn't get this one because I'd already bought the YesYears box the year prior.

I have the European version on vinyl. It is a triple set with a lot of photographs inside, some quite rare. It is a very nicely designed, packaging record - am pleased to have it in my collection.

I have the same one... special-ordered it from Europe... it came out at a time when new vinyl was becoming scarce... how great it was to have a full-size Roger Dean cover again!

PS: on the "fondness" question... I bought it because I thought it was cool... I already had all the music on it...

I have it on triple vinyl too. It's just a shortened down version of the yesyears cd/cassette box, that too was released in 1991

I remember listening to heart of the sunrise and And you and i from yesyears and thought yes west did a far better, exciting and more modern versions of the two from the big generator tour. It was the first time ever i had heard yes west perform these 2 classic tracks. Thanks to yesyears box set

if what you are saying that Yeswest did more exciting versions than the classic group , I say "bah".....It certainly had the 80's arena pump-up ....but I was more thrilled to see ABWH do them.

Regarding the YesWest version of "And You And I," I thought they played well, but it wasn't the same.

Conversely, when Yes did some Big Generator songs a few years back with Howe and Wakeman, they didn't sound the same either.

Those songs have very indentifiable parts played by very distinctive musicians.

I never bought YesStory because it didn't have any version of And You and I. A best-of without AYAI is no best-of at all.

Also, that YesYears included only a YesWest live version of AYAI was a definite negative, IMHO. To me, compilations should never include only the live version of a song. Include the studio, or only include the studio, but don't give us just the live.
