Wow. you're playing "Cut The Ties" at this moment !

I can't believe I came to this thread just in time. I'm usually a week late for everything.

I am currently enjoying this interview, Steve. Thanks! Since I am a very big Tony Kaye fan, I will be looking forward to that interview as well.

Thanks for the positive comments, lucky doug! I really enjoyed doing the interview with Billy and he will be setting me up to speak with Tony K. I will certainly keep YesFans informed as to when that interview will happen.
Much of the T.K. interview will, of course, concern Circa however I do intend to take two sidetrips: early Yes (of course!), and Badger. I am a fan of and have both Badger albums on pristine vinyl. The second one, White Lady, took some work to find, however.

May I make a 'selfish' request of you, that you take a third sidetrip and talk a bit about his second involvement with YES: the Trevor Rabin/YesWest era? The YesWest 3 1/3 albums continue to be my most favorite of the Yes catalog, and Tony's keyboard playing is certainly one of the big reasons I love those as I do. Since I am a relatively newcommer to the music of YES, I did not see any of these tours live, but I have seen them on DVD and really enjoy seeing Tony play. Thanks.

I have some 'newgrass, prog and more" station that is definitely not playing an interview - It as woman singing about a sparrow and her womb. Shnips! Does this run again later??

Yeah, I'm not the greatest fan of the country stuff he's playing now.
It's an odd combination: prog and "newgrass". But hey, I like new ideas.

Sure; I'll be glad to put a YesWest question in. Please remind me, however, around the time of the interview. I will let y'all know when that is on YesFans.

CerebralJazz - Yes, that sounds like my station. :) It is FreeForm so you are likely to hear everything from Prog to Newgrass to Jump Blues to Folk Rock to Psychedelic, etc.

Yep, that's when I thought when I came up with the idea in 2003 to mix prog and newgrass. However, I really did want to stand out from the pack and I wanted to be true to my own tastes since I would have a prog CD in my player then put in a newgrass CD then another prog CD, etc.
Also - prog artists and rock artists are beginning to notice newgrass in a big way. For example, the Grammy-nominated Nashville tribute to The Moody Blues, 2005's 'Moody Bluegrass'. It features bluegrass A-Listers like Sam Bush, Alison Krause, etc. and the live concert at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville featured the actual Moody Blues on stage with the 'Grassers! Justin Haywood is a big fan of the CD. Also, my friend Dave Cousins of The Strawbs was a heck of banjo player for the original 'Strawberry Hill Boys' in the 1970s UK. John Paul Jones and Robert Plant of Led Zep are both big bluegrass fans as well.
Both genres feature complex, creative playing with a focus on jamming live. They also have great attention to top-notch vocals.
Thanks for giving it a chance!

I just don't know what 'wheatgrass juice' has to do with Prog??
How does Circa and the Soggy Bottom Boys share the same time and space? It sounds like some freaky paradox that should not be attempted for fear that the whole universe might collapse!! Beware of your unholy experiments. You just might rip a hole in the space-time fabric and unleash the awesome powers of Alison Krauss and Robert Plant - who just got together for something, by the way.

Well thank you, CerebralJazz! Wow - You thought that I might be a syndicated interviewer; what a compliment! The interviewer was little 'ole me - Steve Sikes-Nova of Tidewater Virginia USA, full-time teacher and part-time webjay/interviewer.

:)LOL!!!! I do, it's true, equate some of my musical mixes with the ancient and sacred art of alchemistry and the search for the musical philosophers' stone. But no risk, no reward, right?!
Best,
:)Steve S-N
P.S. Thank you all for the kind comments and emails. I have scheduled the interview to run again this Wednesday at a different time for those of you that are interested and did not get to hear the interview Yesterday. The interview will also repeat weekly at these same times for the forseeable future. If there is a time-zone that I missed re: a reasonable airtime, please contact me and I will work to accommodate you.

wolfhound - The bluegrass/alt country stuff grows on you (some proggers would say "like a fungus", however...). I was a confirmed progger and English folkie (Nick Drake, John Martyn, etc.) only in 1999 when my wife introduced me to New Grass Revival (Sam Bush, John Cowan, Pat Flynn, and Bela Fleck). They were amazing! I then expanded my acoustic palette to other newgrass and jambands (Crucial Smith, Del McCoury, Leftover Salmon, Yonder Mountain String Band, Railroad Earth, etc.) and soon became a huge fan of the newgrass/Americana genres. When I put my radio station together in 2003 I was really just putting it together for my own amusement. Now, with almost 3,000 unique bookmarked fans from all over the world I know that I am not the only person crazy enough to like this mix.
Thanks for you interest and support!

Thanks so much for your support mpoppe! Cowan is great, isn't he. He has become a personal friend of mine after interviewing him 5x for my station. My wife and I just saw him live a few days ago in Richmond, VA. Have you heard his version of "Long Distance Runaround"? John patterns his bass guitar style after Chris Squire. The very first band that he was in - way back in the day - was a Yes cover band!
Best,

:headset: Thanks again for the compliments CerebralJazz! I became an interviewer by...deciding to become an interviewer (in 2004) and asking for interviews. I have learned and refined along the way. I have done probably 40 music interviews both live and phoners to date.
It also doesn't hurt having an M.S.W. in Clinical Social Work which trained me to interact with focus and purpose with both groups and individuals. I took that training in asking the right question at the right time and adapted it - in my own way - to the music interview setting.
So go ahead and give it a shot. What do you have to lose except for money paying your newly bloated phone bill. My current satellite semi-high speed setup way out here in the country won't allow me to use free VOIP services like Skype to cut my costs.
Best,
:)Steve S-N
