Ok, now this maybe a dumb question, but in "The Ancient, Giants Under the Sun" there is this part (you all know):
Sol, Dhoop
Sun
Illios
Naytheet
Ah Kin
Saule
Tonatituh
Qurax
Gunes, Grian
Surje
Ir
Samse
From context clues, I'm thinking all these words have to deal with the sun in one way or another (sol, sun, etc). Tried to look some of them up without much luck. If anybody could tell me more about them that would be great! Thanks all!

They are all names of Sun Gods.
Search through threads of about a year and a half ago.
We compiled a list of all of their sources....
....all except "Naytheet", that is!

However, Ah Kin is a pun, if you will.
The cosmology of this Mayan sun god likened the rays He shone down to all as "divine effluvia"...and His name basically means...um...sh!t.
(I've always loved comparative mythology. When I posted this bit about Ah Kin to the AOL Yes BB about ten years ago, a few people basically lost their minds out of anger. I trust none of you here will do the same. :winknudge)

Yep. I was there, and I corroborate. A few people "did" lose their minds. What happened to their precious sense of humor? :winknudge

That's really trippy! Learning something new everyday, thanks!
Maybe that's why the sun sometimes feels hotter than.....well ya know.....

Don't you mean 'comparative religion'? Ya know, there IS a difference. Hummm....or is there?
Yes’ ‘The Ancient’ is a noisy, cacophonous avant-garde experiment of grand proportion. The only thing its missing is a few bars of Yoko Ono’s suicide inducing shriek to cross genres. Or, a solo by Ornette Coleman about halfway through woulda clinched the sale. The directionless meanderings of this track make the epic ‘Gates of Delirium’ look like bubble-gum pop. And, lyric-wise, who the heck ever knows what Jon is talking about?
But, I believe that the opening line of the ditty is a direct reference to the sun itself -
"as one with the knowledge and magic of the source"
And, who am I kidding with the slander. I love this ridiculously bloated, pretentious piece of garbage! Just adore it!

Ah! You, dollink, saw the connection immediately, for they are connected...although they are different, as well. Think Joe Campbell.

So, Metheny is not the only thing full of the brown, stinky stuff?!

From where did you obtain this knowledge or idea that the name Ah Kin basically means sh!t?
All references that I have ever seen say that "Kin" means "day or days", "sun", "time" or "season", depending on the context in which it is used. And "Ah Kin" means "He of the Sun".
I am very curious about the source of this differing information.
