I would love to know what gear Patrick had used in the time he was with Yes on stage. All i know he had a big set up just like Wakeman had with Moog's and the like.

Patrick Moraz used one of the first Polymoogs (polyphonic synth) on stage and studio for Relayer. It was the first one that I ever saw. He also had a grand piano, Hammond C3, Minimoog... and maybe a Biotron. ...The Polymoog was state-of-the art and ruled at that time.

I'll look at my '76 tour programme, but I don't know if it lists their gear... they're not Rush, after all...

Now why haven't I got a 2 String Thing, an Alpine Horn and an Electronic Slinky?
Great detective work Hed :D.
No polymoog then? Interesting.

According to one website the Polymoog was released in 1975 (Relayer came out in 1974 of course) and:
'enjoyed initial success as the big name artists bought them when it was first released ($5000!) and Moog's customer list was an impressive 'who's who' of the music scene at the time - Chick Corea, Keith Emerson, ELO, Patrick Moraz, Rush, Larry Fast, Wendy Carlos, Tony Banks, Kraftwerk, Geoff Downes and Rick Wakeman. Later, the PolyMoog would be used by Gary Numan, Devo, Blondie and others.'

Moraz is definitely playing a polyphonic synth during GoD in the 1975 QPR video... would that have been the 2 EMS AKS?
as far as the Alpine horn, slinky and drum machine, this sounds like the list of equipment he used on "Story of 'I'" (1976), but that doesn't mean his live rig was the same as his studio setup...

I was at the Relayer concert and saw the Polymoog on top of Moraz's Hammond C3. "The Story of I" and "Relayer" are loaded with Polymoog.
I will list his stage equipment live again that I could see:
1.Polymoog
2.Minimoog
3.Grand Piano
4.Hammond C3
5.Biotron or EMS AKS
The Polymoog covered the bulk of of the synthesizer work.

I'm sure you're right... I just remember PM playing some two-handed synth during the "battle" sequence of GoD (in QPR '75)... obviously, a poly synth!

I tried a Polymoog back then in a shop in Edmonton - way too expensive to consider buying. Moraz must have made really different patches from Wakeman because I don't hear any Polymoog on Relayer.
Was too far away live in Vancouver '75 to identify his gear.
Played a Synthi AKS in London ~1973, was probably mono.
Also got a big SlinkyŠ mid-70s and dropped a mike into it but no i thunderstorm resulted, waaaa. Now I cannot find big ones to buy. :(
Recently he said he tossed 20 together on a surface for that storm but who knows??
When did Wakeman first lay hands on a Polymoog? I'll ask him Saturday but he cannot answer every e-mail.
Any good links for the Birotron history? Same with String Thing.
I also played a Perspex electric harpsichord very early 70s, may have been a Baldwin.
ARPs were always fun to rent but had quite a nasal thin sound.
Alpenhorn I think are given to every Swiss at birth.
:sneaky:
Great thread.

I took the list directly from the Relayer tour programme.
This was issued before "Story of i" was recorded.

The Polymoog had the only unmistakable reverse filtering in those days along with that distinctive Moog sound only polyphonic.
The Polymoog was a technician's nightmare to repair. It was a slim machine with tightly layered curcuit boards.
In 1982 I bought my first polyphonic synthesizer, a Crumar Stratus, that sounded much like a Polymoog....with reverse filtering.

Interesting fovman. If Moraz used it on Relayer, you're saying he had one maybe 6 months to a year before it was commercially released?

Robert Moog used to give Emerson and Wakeman free gear before it was available retail.
Always wondered about Crumar; haven't tried them, maybe decades ago, does the company still exist?

I believe Moraz got the first Polymoog (maybe pre-release?). He was the developmental consultant for the Polymoog with Bob.
But...maybe you are right ....I will listen to Gates again...always sounded Moog to me.
But, again, he had one stage on the Relayer tour. I perceived the live version sounding like the album....as Yes is noted for.

FYI: Crumar(/Farfisa) made the Farfisa Combo Compact Organ long ago:
My first keyboard in a band (i.e. The Doors)
I think they are out of business..They did make a very expensive state of the art synthesizer toward the end in the 80's.

I read about Moraz doing a promotional film for the Polymoog, so this probably all jives...
