man...i really did not like Drama when i first heard it...and i only gave it one shot...but after listening to it again quite a few times...i have to say...it is a pretty damned good album...Howe plays some pretty mean assed riffs as does Squire...and Trevor Horn is really not as bad as i first thought....
it's amazing how after all of these years i am finally liking the 80's Yes....

When you say 80's Yes do you mean the whole decade or just the Drama album? I've always liked Drama, but the rest...

Sometimes things just take time, ya know?
It occurs to me that a lot of my now favorite artists/albums I either couldn't stand, or were ambivalent. Interesting how that is....

I'd bet that's most typical with prog. music.
Not many of us surely get into all aspects and areas of prog music on the first listen. Surely it can take some time to grasp the complexities of a highly technical album like Drama.
Heck, even CTTE didn't ring any bells with me on the first listen, either....But it was worth the time to hear it again!
Glad you've got it. You're the better for it!

Drama is a Yes album top to bottom... looks like Yes, sounds like Yes... and yes, it really kicks arse... some powerful playing by all involved, and great arrangements on some of the longer tunes...

There could be many more, if People would just "Listen" to it, with an open Mind. Reminds of TYA, with a harder edge.

Converted preacher, welcome to Drama fanatic world!!!!!!
Converts tend to be more hardcore, so spread the word and help those who are not-yet-awaken!
As Trevor Horn is back on stage now, it is really time to let us Drama lovers' voices be heard.
Drama is a great album, Drama songs should be performed live! Currently we have two possibilities for lobbying:
1. The Producers (Trevor Horn, Stephen Lipson, Lol Creme, Chris Braide, Ash Soan) to perform Drama songs, Trevor Horn on lead vocal. They have performed 'OOALH' (Chris Braide sang lead vocal, Trevor Horn on bass and he sang Rabin's vocal part).
2. ASIA to perform Drama songs, John Wetton on Lead vocal. They have performed 'Roundabout'.
I would like both to happen.

I went from LOATHING Drama to really liking it.
Vocals/lyrics/keys a bit weak to these ears for a Yes effort, but I think as far as the rhythm section goes, it's second only to Relayer, and Steve SMOKES.

First it’s a revelation with Trevor, now this. What’s this world coming to?
With all the available un-official live recordings I find myself transfixed on collecting the Drama shows now.
Welcome to the abyss Tim ;)

do get them and listen (I have heard four, I think), but keep in mind Trev sounded a bit better in the studio... it's great to hear a show from that time, however... enjoy

I really don't think Trevor and Geoff were 'weak', they were different.
Trevor's live performance is amazing both in Drama material and classic Yes pieces. As I mentioned somewhere earlier, Trevor's voice has lovely, innocent and touching quality with characteristic youthfulness. Whenever I hear the beginning of 'Into the Lens' (Memories...) I almost feel a lump in my throat. Then towards the end, (I am, I am, a camera) the intensity is overwhelming together with the concentration of the whole band. As for the classic Yes material, I particularly fond of his performance of AYAI, YIND and ST.
As far as I have observed, his singing is even better now (he has been singing in his productions, I believe). I really want him to sing Drama songs now at The Producers' gigs, or even AYAI instead of OOALH.

:beerchugr:
Drama shows have certain charm, I think.
They have sense of urgency...I suppose everyone of the band really wanted to prove that 'that' Yes was as good as any other Yeses ever existed. Almost all tracks sound better than studio version, and those lovely unrecorded tunes ('Go Through This' and 'We Can Fly From Here')...
And yes, I suppose Drama Yes was the coolest Yes, if it was not the best. What a charming band it was...:hearts:

Good for you, SadPreacher! I mean that 100% sincerely. It is truly good for you, because you now have a "new" Yes album to enjoy, where before there was something you did not enjoy. I envy you. There are still a few Yes albums that don't quite click with me, and I'm still waiting for my "conversion moment" with each of them.

he was a bit off-key in some of the shows I've heard... struggling... but I think he was nervous, as those were tough shoes to fill... and the UK audiences were very rude to him...
I've wanted him to step out from behind the soundboard for years and sing and play bass again... with any luck The Producers will put out an album so I can hear him... (still waiting for that Trevor Horn tribute concert DVD!!!)

Remember, they didn't change the keys of classic Yes material for him. If they were a semitone or a tone lower, Trevor should have been totally fine. When it sounds like he was out of tune, it wasn't the matter of his musicianship. It was the break point of his chest register and head register. In Drama material, he was never out of tune. Oh well, let's not be too picky, even Jon can be out of tune sometimes.
Trevor was impeccable in terms of rhythm and he learnt the words perfectly and the delivery was accurate. This also suggests that he wasn't nervous.

They will. They have already put a single out:
http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=110361059&MyToken=9e65cd1c-9db8-42ed-868e-65fd1f6487da
Now the problem is that the lead vocal of this single is Chris Braide, not Trevor. Hence my suggestion for lobbying for Trevor to sing more lead vocals in The Producers! They also have guest vocalists (Will Young, Jamie Cullum etc) in their gigs which I think totally unnecessary when we have this extra fine vocalist!!!

yeah, I read that Trevor wanted to modify them to his voice, bur Chris wouldn't have it...
