One of the things that's always intrigued me about this wonderful song is how it was played on stage over the years in different versions. The one I grew up with loving the most is the Yessongs version with the alternative start and with Steve using his double neck Gibson. Of course, as technology improved, he was later able to play a more faithful version with the original 12 string acoustic opening.

My main queries though are:

1. Was the song played as per the Yessongs version throughout the whole of the CTTE tour, or did it evolve into that form as the tour progressed?

2. When exactly - or on what tour- did Chris first use the harmonica? I first heard it in 1980, but I know it appeared a few years earlier.

I'd be gratful for any light that can be shed on this for me.

The earliest CTTE tour gig I have heard is Columbia 1n 1972 - that was the 13th of the tour and they were doing the Yessongs opening. The first tour that I can find that they did the acoustic opening was the 1980 Drama tour.

As for the harmonica, that first appeared on the first leg of the Relayer tour in 1974. It was almost as if they rejigged the song a bit with Moraz.
