The set list (although the order may be a bit off):

New Day
Beyond The Sea Of Lies
Once And For All
Changes
Waterhole
Give Up Giving Up
Crazy Believer
Owner Of A Lonely Heart
Mighty Love
I Got News For You (an old blues standard with Steve Boyce on lead vocals)
Instant Karma
What Love Is
encore:
You Are The Child

'What Love Is' and 'You Are The Child' are unreleased White songs. Both are very good, with 'You Are The Child' being one of the best White songs in their entire catalog.

Anyway, it was a great show. MrZuLu and I were talking afterward and we feel like this band is our little secret here in the northwest and we want to share it with everyone else! Seriously hope that White gets a tour and all of you can see them play as well.

Interesting tidbits:
Just before the show started a man sat right next to me in the back. I turned to look and it was Roger Fisher from Heart.
Richard "Wayo" Hogan was in the lineup.
Paul Sherman played keyboards. I spoke at length with Paul Sherman. He is a friend of Mark Cardenas (most recent keyboard player during the last 3 or 4 White gigs) and was referred for the gig by Mark. Mr. Sherman was a big YES fan back in the 70's. He is now principally a jazz pianist/keyboard player in and around Seattle and can be seen weekly at Seattle's Sorrento Hotel (http://www.hotelsorrento.com/) and with other bands. Alan gave him "Machine Messiah" to work up and he is excited to do it and plans to have it ready for future gigs, which indicates that this will not be the last time we will see Paul Sherman with White.
Devereaux was the opening band. They were awesome. The drummer was playing Alan's kit. http://www.devereauxmusic.com/
The gig was at a small theater in Issaquah, WA in a place called "Illusionz" (http://www.illusionz.com/). The band rehearses there and this gig was a favor to the owner for letting them rehearse in the theater. It is a nice intimate theater and there were about 100 people there.

I have some friends in Issaquah. I bet my friend Skot was there. He is a rather tall redheaded guy. He goes to see White up there a bunch. Wish I could come up. Maybe some day soon.

Oops. That's RICHARD Hogan. As in Richard "Wayo" Hogan. I'll correct that.

Sorry for the delay, folks. Life tends to intervene now and then. I will recap my adventure. Mark's review is pretty much what I was going to say

The Journey ~ Noonish Jan 6
We left Ferndale a little after noon headed south for Issaquah! Totally stoked. We stopped for a couple tacos to keep the hunger monster down in anticipation of a Prime Rib feast! As we were munching away, we had the local classic rock station on and much to my horror they report over 50,000 in the North Seattle to Everett areas are out of power due the previous nights storm...

...we leave Taco Bell

Mikey gets a bit excited/anxious at the above news and loses track of his speed...

...ooops blue lights!

We are never gonna get there!

Issaquah ~ 2:30 (We finally arrive at Illusionz)
I go to front desk and get the tickets. This places is an all ages arcade with a bar in the back for parents. Behind the bar is a small room with stage and 6 rows with 110 movie theatre style seats and a small dance/dining floor that held four 8 top round tables and two 10 top banquet tables. Another banquet table that suited as a bar. I let the boys know we arrived there. I didn't bother them as they were in middle of sound check. We went next door for some liquid lunch!

Dinner ~ 6:00
The dinner was amazing! Looking at how the place was setup I was becoming skepitcal about this part. The place truely is an illusion!

Menu:
Caesar Salad with garlic croutons.
(Absolutely perfect! Clearly, the romaine was washed and carefully
dried because the dressing clung to the lettuce perfectly.)
Saute`d Squash with white wine, Shiitake mushrooms and Pearl Onions.
Delightfully light Scalloped Potatoes
8oz Salmon Filet Steamed with White wine
Prime Rib with a Subtle Wine sauce.

Open bar while dining.
First class buffet with fine dining quality fare...

After Dinner
While everyone was eating, the proprietors lowered this giant 10'x7' screen and lo and behold we get to watch the Seahawks WIN!!!

While the game was on they cleared the dining tables and brought out 4 little round cocktail tables. We had first option at the floor table but the movie seats were much better. All but one group of 4 that attended dinner used a floor seat which made it kewl for the non-dinner folks to get floor or stand seats.
My seat was three rows back right at eye level with Alan smack dab in the middle! Kevin had to look down for eye contact... PERFECT!

ooops need more coffee!

some finer points...

The Yes tunes were surprizing actually...

Sherman nailed the keyboard intro which obviously made Alan very happy as that is when he started his chit-eatin, bobbleheaded grin. When Alan gets the bobblehead goin' you know he is in the groove! What surprized me was the high 'Anderson' vocal parts. They were there and very clear. Curry was right in front of me blocking Alan's view when he was holding the mic at the mic'stand. As he got into the song he removed the mic and started wandering around the stage. That is when I noticed who was singing the high parts!

It was Alan!

and he nailed them!

'Owner' was totally kewl!
they rearranged it keeping true to the theme with their own interpretation intact.
5 part vocal harmonies and Alan worked in a sweet little solo. Everyone loved the Yes stuff... the crowd sounded like a sold out house!

Blue lights! :eeek:

Assuming that you still arrived on time as you did, you guys weren’t roasting a skunk or slicing a piece of blueberry pie while being stopped. Thank goodness…

My mouth is watering for both the food & music. Thanks for the rundown!

AHHHHH! So it is possible to think that a credible Yes tour might be possible without Jon!?!

I asked Alan about this...

He said no promises but they are working on a few gigs in the summer possibly. I would not consider it a tour per se, more like a series of one-offs

one-offs are always a good thing. :D

Alan told my buddy that brought him to victoria Nov. 30 for drum clinic he'd bring Yes here so I'd expect White before that! It's an easy trip once the weather gets normal ( if EVER! )

Zulu: by "arcade" do you mean a room full of videogames or what kind?
I wish Yesguys would record and tour solo with the same keyboardists and not a string of replacements but it is hard to equal the originals when they are on the CD. Using unknowns for original solid solo albums and touring with them would work and get some more keypeople known and working steadily.

Used to have one of those downtown Victoria by the theatres but it's just regular vidgames now- what a strange venue for White!

Yes and No. The theater is actually separated from the game room(s). You do go through the game rooms to get to the theater, but once you are in the theater you forget that there are teenagers outside playing air hockey. Of the 6 or 7 times I have now seen White, it was actually my favorite venue.

Also, this was a place they would just rehearse and as a favor to the Illusionz owner they put on this show as a "pay back". Illusionz would host other shows in their theater as well.

Sadly, a few days after this show Illusionz announced that they are closing their doors. See Steve Boyce's blog: http://steveboycenow.spaces.live.com/

What a drag; didn't notice you lived in Seattle.
If I come down I'd stay at relatives in Bellevue and catch a show in future.
Passports a must this month, OY.

It's a drag these places fold so easily.
