SO... I've heard reports on Steve's guitar tone so-far this tour.
It appears Steve is using some crunch, some heft... making a bit of noise this time around!

Yeah! Comments/thoughts?

Oh yeah? interesting. I say we kick back and see if he gets maligned or compared to Trevor Rabin. :D

Even when Steve is crunchy, it's a different crunch - tastefull. He won't be compared to Rabin.

Steve is being pushed by another soloist that is his equal on stage. A good healthy rivalry is what everyone needs to bring the most aggressive in them out (for musicians anyway).

I agree with you bataisflow. I think they are both amazing guitarists, but certainly can't be compared.
I used to try to do that, which got me in trouble back when...

Now I'm just happy that we still have a YES at all!

I understand Steve's recent departure from crunch: the idea that the notes played tastefully should be enough...

But I missed his full spectrum of tone, and am really happy to hear about the return of natural tube distortion this tour!!!
